Umnumzaan gives SNG a run for it's money.......

I had $100 brand name knife where the blade broke. I do not know what people do with their knives. I like quality not quantity.

Music to my ears, which is why I sold off all of my less expensive knives and ended up with 3 or 4 really good ones . If only CRK would make a multi-tool, now that would be the day........that I go completely broke!

I'm genuinely curious how you broke the blade and which knife it was that broke, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks.

i work at CRK. haven't owned a strider but they look nice. the strider guys i've talked to at shows were smart, creative and kind. we all scramble to fill our orders so we must be selling. when you really need a knife, the best one is the one you can get your hands on.

The Umthing might be a better knife in every way, but until CRK backs their products the way Strider does, it's still at a disadvantage from a "tactical" point of view, IMO. Strider might call you a dumbass for wrecking one of their knives, but they will replace it.

I don't know, but I believe CRK stands behind their product as well as Strider. If you have a different experience, please share it with us. I am curious. Here is the Strider word on warranty

Somewhat different wording but seems the same to me.
Thanks

I think he's talking about the flicking. Strider doesn't care if you flick open your knife hard like people do with the axis lock knives or autos.

I think Strider will cover batoning and harder use actions and Reeve's will not. Strider will cover these actions, no questions and replace the knife. I could be wrong.

....and I agree with Dave.:D

Sad to say but I see "tactical" as being a facetious category. It has turned into a joke. Tactical items are suppose to be something that is purely for work, you can't beat the usefulness of the item. Strictly a tool, all function. Now you are looking at "tacti:cool:" as being a selling point, fashion, trendy, etc. I digress.....

The Umnumzaan out classics the SNG. I would comment on more but I'm still waiting for my lefty model.

No, I do not mind sharing at all. I came to BF to learn and share. This was a long time ago, maybe five years ago, I used a Benchmade knife to cut the outer layer of a sugar cane. Forgive me that I forgot what model it was. I remember that the blade was at least 3.5 inches but it was not that thick. Perhaps, I used to much force or did not know how to cut it properly. I knew little about blades and folders back then. I'm still learning 5 years later. However, I have a feeling that I can at least cut the outer layer of a sugar cane with this Umnumzaan. I just received my new knife so I have not gotten a chance yet.

I have Striders and Sebenzas and love them both. Can't say which is "better" overall because they're both great in their way. Other than the 21, neither are too available at the moment. Striders are hard to find right now with most of the SnGs and SMFs going to the military market. And Reeve has discontinued the Regular Sebenza. If I had to rate them, I'd say the SnG has the best feel in the hand, the SMF is the beefiest of the bunch, the Regular Sebenza has the best blade, and the Classic Micarta is a fantastic all-around knife. Sebenzas are more refined, consistent, and smoother, but Striders are solid and strong with good feel in the hand. Haven't had a chance to try to the new Umnum yet.

Each brand has a loyal following, and I don't think either maker will see a decline in sales as a result of the other's new knife introductions.

Well said. All it means is more money out of my pocket cause I can't resist awesome knives. :D

I don't think makers harbor illusions of "taking over" any part of the market.

One thing I have noticed in the knife world is that there is room for all.

The other thing that I noticed is that I am a sucker for a nice frame lock which is why I have a zaan on the way. :D

:D

I have two SNG's and while I have only held a Sebbie, I have say while I can appreciate the refinement of the Sebbie, the SNG just fits my hand so well and it really quite ingenious in design.

I think how the CRK warranty states that it is a specific tool and will fix providing it hasn't been abused, while Strider states they will fix it if it's broke is a pretty big difference. Pretty sure that's what it says, anyways. Fortunatley, I haven't actually used either warranty(when my Seb came with major blade play and rubbing the non-lock side, it was dealt with through my dealer). But, the way both are worded seems to say to me one will cover anything I use the knife for, even if it's not the intended use, while the other will cover everything that knives are intended to be used for.

I think CRK is wasting and wasted time going after the tactical market with the new folder.

I can certainly say that the new offering doesn't do anything for me. I don't do tactical knives at all, but I am really hooked on Sebenzas and other quality work knives. Simple mechanics, clean lines, strong materials, unobtrusive looks... those are the qualities I focus on when I'm knife shopping. I haven't seen anything that tops a Sebenza in those categories.

Yes, I agree. There are Mercedes and there are BMW's. You shouldn't compare them.

That is why I posted the links to their warranty statements. Strider covers some stuff and some they don't just like Reeve's. I guess I am missing something. Thanks for the reply.

As per Strider
Liability: We are responsible for the condition of EVERY knife that LEAVES our shop, regardless of what has been done by YOU. When the knife leaves here, and we have worked on it, we are responsible for it again. Unfortunately, we can’t afford the liability of YOUR work.

I like them all...apple's and orange's.

From what I'm reading, Strider will cover all sorts of use that would be defined as abuse by the CRK warranty. Strider also does make sure to exclude "pimping", but that only stands to reason as most would agree, I think.
