Umnumzaan Thoughts

I have to disagree here, the Umnumzaan is thicker then the 21 model, and a touch thinner then the Regular model. The tip shape is different as well, but it's no where near fragile. Look at the thread where the guy bent the tip and managed to bend it back straight.

Ya.. it's not fragile.. and it sounds like it's plenty tough if it was bent, and then bent back.

The 'Zaan is one great looking knife and will likely be my first CRK. Can you 'Zaan owners please give me an update. Ive read up on this thread and many others, but i wouldn't mind hearing a little more. Im mainly asking the owners that EDC this blade and have opened and closed the blade countless of times and used it hard.

How is the Umnanzaan holding up?
-Any problems with the ceramic ball? has it worn the tang causing the the lock to migrated? has the knife developed any up-down blade play?
-Tip too delicate?
-do the perforated washers feel like a major improvement? how often do you have to apply grease compared to your other knives?
-is the Startac harder on the pockets than the original? (noticing the Startec is textured under the clip).
-over time, does it remain as smooth as a sebenza or does it get harder to open?
-Still a favorite or have most of you gone back to the Sebenza?

anything else you want to add would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help

I've had no problems whatsoever with the ceramic ball. I haven't heard of any issues with anyone else's either.

The tip will always be too delicate for whatever task actually breaks it. What do you plan on doing with the tips of your knives? Contrary to what many say, the Umnumzaan's tip is actually thicker than the Sebenza's--I'm not really sure how they can think it is possible that it would not be.

The perforated washers don't really "feel" much smoother. They hold lubricant better though.

I don't have a Startac, so I can't comment on that.

My Umnumzaan has maintained a consistent level of smoothness. I have been unable to note any degradation of smoothness. I'm sure if you crank down really hard on the pivot, though, it could become harder to open than it was before.

The Umnumzaan is one of my favorite knives, and it still manages to regularly struggle with my Sebenza for a place in my pocket.

The Sebenza, all things being the same, will always be a better slicer.

The Umnumzaan rocks IMO. Pure and simple, one of the best knives I have ever handled and used.

+1 with what Reeek said. I think it is a great user, I recently purchased my first one and in a week I found another one to buy. Now I'm selling one of these two and I going to order one with the new steel, just to have one in each steel offered.

Sebenza are great knives and I am not giving mine up any time soon, but I am enjoying using and carrying my Umnum-- Zaan :).

I Love my Startac. It screams quality and is a pure work of art as well as a very useful EDC tool!!

I absolutely love my Umnum... it is a beauty to use. When I first got it I removed the clip and the lanyard and carried it in a horizontal belt sheath... but I put those back on, and now use the clip for pocket carry.

Simply put it is an amazing knife, that I am never without. It is always in my pocket, or next to me. It is a well built knife, that does what its supposed to... which is to cut things. It comes apart very easily, cleans well, and is incredibly smooth to open and close.

I absolutely love it.

Cheers!
