That was easy. Now, please stay with the topic, and ease up on critiquing each other's motives. This is a great place to ask and share information.

Outstanding pictures!!! It really displays the bomb-proof vehicles and the extra steps the military is taking to protect our boys.

A good knife is one of the few comforts a soldier is allowed and to have something happen to it is upsetting. More so than getting your vehicle blown to hell.....those get replaced. But a good knife....well, that's on the soldier's shoulders to correct.

I wish I was able to get some pictures of my Hummvee after the IED, but being laid up on the operating table sort of got in the way.

Consider yourself fortunate not to have sustained an injury. So far over the last 4 years, I have been hospitalized 3 times because of the shrapnel moving in my thigh.

Keep the Fight strong.

My Umum's birthday is July 15, 2009. It looks to have a solid thumstud. There's no gap between the blade and stud, I reckon it's gotta be a solid piece, right ?

IMHO, Umnumzaan is still a great knife whether it has a solid stud or a two-piece stud. Even if it's a two-piece stud, it takes an IED to break it :D

Well...that's the big question and one which we wont have an answer for until we can call CRK on Monday morning to get the facts.

I've tried to determine if mine is solid or not...and even with magnification, I still cannot tell which style it is.

I apologize if it appeared that I was trying to make this about me or my particular knife; that was NOT my intention.
I'll contact CRK tomorrow to find out.

Thanks Gravelface. I do feel very fortunate only ligament damage. I remember my last 2 deployments when it was all humvees (not even uparmour sometimes) they were sh*tty to say the least luckily we walked alot. But I was lucky enough to hit one in an mrap. So thank god for that. I'm back to carrying my umnumzaan for the short time (hopefully) I have left here. I'm gonna use the hell out of it till I send it back in. Thanks again everybody for your kind words and support.

Hey stabman...
I don't think you have anything to apologize for...all just here talking knives!

But anyway....If your going to call tomorrow, I will await your reply back here.
I'm sure CRK would appreciate having to only field one call instead of a few of us with the same questions. :D

I am glad no one is injured! May God protect you and bring you back safely. On a more friendly note, imagine someone asks you: So this is a $400 knife......so what does it take to break it?.......reply comming.....wait for it......Well, I know an IED only loosens the thumbstud so I suppose more then that.:p

I made the call yesterday.
Anne is researching whether the switch was made yet when my knife was made. I should hopefully hear back soon.

I sent my Umnumzaan in for repair when the thumbstud slid off. It was repaired and sent back with no problems since . But now i am wondering if CRK replaced the two piece with a one piece? How can i tell?

wow, those are some pics there!

It must have been a huge IED to take out that sucker.

Glad everyone made it ok.

Thanks alot vactor. That's really cool of you man but it would be wrong of me to accept that. Truth is the kind of guy with a 400 dollar knife is also a guy who has more than a few good ones he brought with him;) Even if I broke my umnumzaan in half I'd probly have to break another half a dozen to be without. I can't say enough guys how much I appreciate the overwhelming support from you. I'm gonna get some umnumzaan pics while I'm still here and try to post them soon. Thanks again vactor and everyone else. I didn't know they would have to replace the whole blade to make it a solid pin? What I'm wondering (i should probly just call and ask) is the one side pressed into the blade and the other just pressed into it? Since it's a right handed knife and it's hard to open left handed thumbstud or not I guess as long as the right side stayed in I assume it would only be a cosmetic issue? I would think the one side would be pretty damn strong

Not only is the one side pressed in, the hole is stepped ....when the male is pressed into the female it expands the flare.

I believe that the issue with the early studs was not a design issue but a tollerance mistake with a first batch...JMO.

Still no news?
You'd think someone could just walk over to the thumblug station and see what type they are using now?
