Umnumzaan tip strength (video added on page 2)

Any knife can kill you, even a 1" blade will unzip you but my point is a "tactical folder" is a shockingly bad choice for defence for a number of reasons. People that have to kill people for money don't use tactical folders to do it. That is the marketing I'm talking about.

Amateurs do it all the time.
Three or four inches of steel stuck in you sucks, as numerous corpses in morgues can attest.
We overthink these things, while evil men (and women) go out and kill folks with dollar store paring knives and "Cheap Chinese Crap" (or Pakistan...those were the days) folders.

No folding knife is fit for the purpose of killing bad guys in a professional manner, no matter how much you want to believe it.

I guess Keating, Janich, Ayoob, Wagner and other designers of folding knives for that purpose should retire after apologize to all the people that there fooled with their knives...

I am totally disagree with you.

Yes yes, those knives primary purpose and primary use by all their owners is the peeling of bad guys, of course it is and how obtuse of me not to believe that. If you carry a pocket knife for self defence you have been led into making some bad decisions, IMO.

There are better choices to be sure.
Of course, if I knew trouble was going to occur, I'd stay at home.;)
If out and about and attacked by some lout, then whatever is on me will have to work out.

These seem to work really good for self defense - I mean offense. Maybe not enough tip strength though?

The word "tactical" is a marketing term, there are no "tactical knives" there are knives that are either fit for purpose or not. No folding knife is fit for the purpose of killing bad guys in a professional manner, no matter how much you want to believe it. The armed forces are issued with a rifle and a bayonet for killing people, not a 3 or 4 inch pocket knife. :D The Mili. and Para. are good knives but I have seen broken blades on both those knives, I have yet to see any on an Umnumzaan or Sebenza. :)

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but there are still tons of knives and entire companies that are based on "tactical". I realize the reason they exist is because of the marketing you're talking about, but the knives are still designed around the intent of self defense. A fixed blade is definitely better and I would never want to fight with a knife regardless, I'd much rather have a gun. But knives are still backups or last ditch defense tools and most people won't carry a fixed blade. So they design folding knives that should be better than others if you did have to fight with it. I'm sure Sal Glesser would rather his son had his assault rifle, and if not his, sidearm, and if not, a 12 inch Busse fixed blade or something :), but as a last ditch effort, the Military or Paramilitary are probably some of the better knives to have if you HAD to fight with them. Definitely better than a Seb, IMHO. And I agree, I broke the tip of the first Para I ever had on the first day and have never broken any CRK in any way, but I doubt I'd break a Para's tip on flesh and I could probably maintain a better grip and would definitely trust the lock strength more than a framelock (even though frame locks are my favorites), etc.

Sorry to get carried away. I completely get your point, but regardless there are "tactical folders" that are at least designed around certain theories about what would make them better for "combat".
