Uncivil Forums

My point being, that a lot of the confrontations arise from the original (stupid) post. If people would think twice and post once, a lot of the sh*t that goes on around here would be eliminated.

to lube up my knives if I run outta Tuf-glide? I always keep a tube handy to lube up 2X4's.

I post my opinions on things, nothing more. You do not agree, let me know. You take offense, flame my Arse.

I will apologize if I stepped on toes or crossed the line, but if you tell me to stuff it because you have determined I suck, BFD.

I am not gonna go sit by a tree-stump and eat my gun over it:confused: :p :p ;)

BF is just too large to have only friendly's posting.

Its really pretty simple...

The amount of heat and flames is more or less proportional to the emotional content of the subject! What makes a subject emotional? Well, politics and religion are always emotional. Otherwise, there are several things that lend emotion to otherwise straightforward topics (like knives). They include personal pride (reputations that may be on the line), and good old fashioned money. When people's financial stake in something is affected by the behavior (in our case always the words) of others, the subject acquires an emotional vector, and that's the gasoline that fuels the fire when the slightest spark appears from somewhere.

Its part of human nature. If you suppress it too quickly, you risk committing inappropriate censorship. If we're civilized, the parties will back off one way or another. If not, then it can be time for the moderator to step in.

Wolfie, I know YOU can handle it because you are knowledgible and have a tough hide. Sometimes I think that there are certain knife postulates, and if anyone says something other than the party line, we don't treat them like a regular knut.

For example, somewhere out there is a knut that has an extensive collection of Pakistani knives. My mom collected spoons, thimbles and demitasse cups. (She had a big white art deco cabinet she kept them in. My brother thought the cabinet, and probably the contents were hideous).

I'm thinking of selling ALL of my closet queens and just USING the money. I might not consider myself a knut after that, just a consumer.

You are a forumite I respect and even if you rebuked me I'd think that maybe I had it coming for being stupid. Re-read Lady Colt's post again. She's a knut and got hurt.

FRIENDLY KISSY KISSY POSTS ARE NOT WHAT ANYONE WANTS- WHEN TACT IS USED IN POSTS AND RESPECT FOR OPINIONS EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE' IT SHOWS INTELLIGENCE. YOUR OPINIONS WILL BE VALUED AND TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY OTHERS BECAUSE THEY RESPECT YOU FOR IT. I WAS ON THE FFA DEBATE TEAM IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND THAT TEACHED ME HOW TO ADDRESS OTHERS WITH RESPECTFULNESS.

Lady Colt, I'm assuming by the 'all caps' response that I offended you in some manner. I sincerely apologize. I also debated in high school and use that experience everyday in discussions with co-workers and clients.

I do not know you, nor have I read many of your posts. My response to you will be different (even in disagreement) than it would be to Wolfmann601, Mikemck or Classified00; these people have my respect and they are learning my sense of humor. If they take a shot at me it's just the cost of admission.

Again, I'm glad you're back, and I hope we will spar on some diverse topic in the future.

Lady Colt, I hope that my posts in that thread were not some of the ones you found hurtful. If so, please let me apologize here and now. My problem was with the company you were standing up for, not with you at all. I have nothing but respect for the great show of generosity you showed in helping out Yiterp. As far as I am concerned you are a valued member of this forum and I would love to see more from you.

Heated discussion is going to happen. There is nothing wrong with that. Some of the most interesting threads are the ones that contain these heated debates. It is when they degrade to name calling, insults and threats that things have gone to far. Some people seem to post only these aggressive, malignant comments and they are the ones that I have a problem with. All they want to do is stir the pot and fan the flames. Pretty damn useless as far as I am concerned.

ICHABOD,

You haven't offended me at all, I apologize for using caps and thus passing on an impression I was offended by you. I was addressing posts from the wolfmann, and shane. I am still musing over them not quite sure of the intended message they are making. once again sorry for the mistake in using all caps

KWM,

I do appreciate your apology, but you are not the person/s whom offended me. This was done is such a way, questioning my intelligence and integrity.

Lady, my post(s) were not directed at you specifically. They were meant as a generalization to the current trend of flaming, insulting and general sh*t-throwing that we see going on here (Whine and Cheese excepted - that bunch gets mad if we DON'T throw sh*t).

The fact that you are puzzled by my comments re-inforces the fact that the internet is a very vague, faceless and ambiguous way to communicate - especially when emotions come into play. Interpretation of the written word can have a different meaning to anyone who reads them. I've been guilty of pissing people off - for the most part unintentionally - but that is the joy of having a keyboard as a link between my mouth and your ears.

Shane,

my "perfect" example as you've stated, shows what is getting to be the normal a very limited vocabulary of the english language. I was never puzzled over anything, I was pondering you and wolfmanns statements. Definition of Muse: to become absorbed in thought.

Let's put it this way, forums are places for open discussion,
meaning : ANYTHING can ( and usually DOES ) occur. This is what
basically sets Western Civilization apart from the rest : no "caste
system" ( although we are working toward that! :(), no real authority
figures present, and hence, freedom! But freedom has a price, ALL free
nations in the Western World have their fair ( and sometimes not-so-fair ) share of problems associated with being free from tyranny. When
we allow censorship & have stringent"rules" we deviate from our "norm"
of allowing "all" to be able to express their opinion(s) to the "elect" "few". Forums have existed since Greek & Roman times ; when these two civilizations allowed these to become constricted they
became tools of the despots that ruled later in those same civilizations. In England, I'm told, the House of Lords still has fistfights on the floor of the House! This is HUMAN BEHAVIOR ( not at
it's best, I'll admit ;))but none-the-less this is the "price" of being free. It seems these days most Americans would rather dispense
with ideas as these, the Constitution being one of them, and if you forumite(s) don't agree, look at how Ashcroft got his bill passed into "Law"! Just take words like "safety & security" and the Constitution is rendered "null & void" by "patriotic" "Americans";
this is the case in point with this forum, and, if we don't like what we read ( or see ) we can, having free will, IGNORE the offender.

A.E.T. ;)

One thing that I read a lot on this forum is that if we don't like something that has been posted ignore it. How in the heck can you tell if you are going to find a post unacceptable until after you have read it and by then it is to late to ignore it.

Also, this forum has rules. If someone has a problem with those rules they are free not to take part in the discussions here, but they are not free to break those rules.

Edited to remove a word that made no sense.

Lady Colt:
My response was NOT a shot at you or your reaction to what you feel was harsh and/or uncivil treatment. Do you see how simple one can read something in a post and immediately become defensive, when there was nothing in my post to become defensive at?

BF is a large forum with a varied user database. Some are great people in person, but very poor communicators, some are TROLLS, some do stick their feet in their mouths more than others. It's a faceless society trying to function.

I do not target people and take personal potshots. I look in the mirror everyday and I see someone who is far from perfection. The day will never come in my life that I am so perfect that I can slam someone undeservingly [very key word] or disrespect someone because "I want to". My house is made of glass..........

I take great pride in my accomplishments in life, have some bones I wish would vaporize from my closet and many posts I wish to God I had never written. I also try to help and assist people on BF and other knife forums because my lifestyle has always been that who is willing to help and not wanting to recklessly hurt someone either through words or deeds.

I am sorry there may be some who have taken cheap shots at you. I am not one of those. I simply wanted to say that there are those that do that are not worthy of becoming upset over and their garbage comments are not worth the time to hit the delete key. Thick skin or thinned, some folks require they be ignored

I hope you decide to stay here on BF, and please, I am NOT the enemy........wolf

**And as usual, this is my opinion. Don't agree, say so. If this pisses you off, just ignore me like others do;)

Waaaay off topic,
