Unconditional Lifetime Warranties?

You're not mistaken. It is produced by Lion Steel and I know that. ESEE/DPx didn't have any problems when their name was used to advertise it to potential buyers, when Lion Steel name was not even mentioned in most cases. There are so many dealer listing saying that it is ESEE product. ESEE never cared to correct that because it worked for them. That folder got so much attention because of the ESEE name, so I think a bit of blemished reputation when it comes to it is well earned as well. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against ESEE, I think they make good knives. I'm eager to see what terms ESEE 3 folder will bring.

Sorry for taking it a bit off topic.

you really should check some facts before you post stuff.

Im not sure how ESEE is to blame for a dealer mislabeling a product or why a product that brings no profit to ESEE would "work for them" to leave their name on it. But whatever. You are entitled to your opinion.

ESEE used to have a page on their website (now gone):
http://www.eseeknives.com/hest_folder.htm

Many still quote information that was listed there:

Introducing the ESEE DPx H•E•S•T /F (Hostile Environment Survival Tool / Folding)

For the first time the brutal, rugged feel and performance of the DPx H•E•S•T fixed blade has been engineered into a hard use frame lock folder. The D2 Tool Steel folder comes with a Titanium alloy frame, patented RotoBlock adjustment, removable glass breaker (with replacement smooth-head screw), hex-bit driver in handle/frame, and collectible stainless steel “Mr. DP” adjustment/multi tool. After a global search the firm of Lion Steel was selected to manufacture this knife based on their long heritage of quality, award winning folders. The DPx H•E•S•T folder is the collaboration of Robert Young Pelton (World’s Most Dangerous Places fame) and ESEE Knives. The DPx H•E•S•T Folder is based on Pelton's hard time in dangerous places, ESEE's commitment to customer satisfaction and Lion Steel's mastery of manufacturing quality and tolerances. The DPx H•E•S•T Folder is designed and made for hard use in hostile conditions with the ESEE lifetime warranty.

Now who got what from the pie I don't know and don't care. This is how it got started and many people are still confused about warranty of this product.

Strider. "If you break it we will be impressed. Then we will fix it or replace it."

So a quote from a link that no longer works is proof that they are still associated with the Hest folder? It is pretty clear they are not, they have never claimed to be, Ryp has never stated they are.

Regardless, Ryp seems to stand behind the knives and does have a "anything happens" kind of warranty.

We should make one of these a sticky.

ESEE, Strider, Busse, Swamp Rat, Scrap Yard, Fehrman, Ranger.... Maybe Snap-On, Mac, Matco and PROTO should make knives.

Ok, you win. ESEE had nothing to do with the confusion around the HEST folder. Let's leave this off-topic.

Mac and PROTO are both owned by Stanley. Mac Tools is trying to move as much production overseas as they can it seems. I no longer give them my business. They have some knives but are all Chinese junk.
Matco dealers.carry S&W knives. More junk.

Most Snap-On dealers carry Kershaw. I have a red 440A Snap-On Blur. They charge full retail. I can buy the knives from NGK cheaper than my dealer can get them.

Sadly, none of these companies are going to make their own while they can just carry another manufactures knives. :(

I know Strider has changed their stance on the warranty because people have just bought the knife to beat the sh*t out of it and then send it in. Taking advantage of the warranty so to speak. Same thing happened with ESEE knives (fixed blades) and also other makers (including custom makers).

In short, most respectable companies/makers will go above the warranty to keep the client happy but they also reserve the right to not repair etc the knife if they feel you have gone all Rambo on it just to get a free be.

For those debating the ESEE/DPX thing. This is what ESEE had to say.

Important announcement regarding DPx Gear and ESEE Knives

ESEE Knives® and DPX Gear (Robert Pelton) have completed an agreement to totally separate the two companies. Even though the two companies have been separate from the beginning there was an increasing issue of confusion that DPX was a part of ESEE® as another of ESEE’s brands like Izula® or Junglas®. There was also a realization that the direction of marketing and philosophy was different enough so that we couldn’t devote 100% effort and remain true to our goals and stated philosophy. In short we were finding that our target in the marketplace was in two different directions. To resolve those issues DPX will now handle all its own knife manufacturing and warranty work. All DPX products including HEST knives have been discontinued with ESEE Knives. DPX HEST fixed blade production will resume at the discretion of DPX Gear under a different manufacturer and without the association to ESEE®. ESEE will continue to warranty HEST knives made with the ROWEN name on them.

We remain friends with Robert Pelton and wish the best for DPX Gear and Robert. Please visit the DPX Gear forum here in the manufacturer’s section of Blade Forums for information about production plans for HEST and future HEST/DPX products.

As a side note, to all of this, we will be re-introducing the Laser Strike to our lineup to replace the HEST. Prototypes of the new Laser Strike should be available around SHOT show time.

To all dealers and distributors who have pre-ordered the HEST Folder: Patricia will be sending each of you an email by the end of the week with instructions on how to proceed with getting your orders filled. In short, Robert Pelton / DPX gear is taking over shipping all dealer/distributor orders for the HEST folder.

Mike, Jeff, Patricia, Shon and Becky would like to thank all of you for the continued support of ESEE Knives. We appreciate every one of our customers!

Personally, I prefer Snap-On and then Craftsman just because of the ease of going to the store.

Snap-On really is better though. Snap-On always has there name on this or that knife. The same way as the other companies. I wish they would actually make a knife.

Mac and PROTO are both owned by Stanley. Mac Tools is trying to move as much production overseas as they can it seems. I no longer give them my business. They have some knives but are all Chinese junk.

Wow. You are pretty rude. There exists none that have an unconditional warranty. SOME people just lack the moral integrity to accept their misuse destroyed a knife and except a company to loose money because of this.

SS, i'm just asking because I saw ESEE has a great warranty and asked if there was anything else like that, and I learned Grayman, Strider, Kershaw, and Buck all have great warranty service (Strider was courtesy of you SS). I do believe the thread was about a topic, so I would appreciate staying on the topic, I don't feel I'm being rude for asking if we could stay a little more on topic. I do know I have the moral integrity to accept a destroyed knife as destroyed if of course this is what you were implying. (I know I do because i've broken two knives and I know it was my fault and not faulty craftsmanship), if I misuse it not for its intended purpose then I know it is my fault and I don't expect any company to lose money based on my actions.

It's not what you say but how you say it. You have a pretty good list with what you have there. Most of those will warranty them as long as you aren't just completely misusing the knife.

I'm sorry that I didn't phrase getting back onto the topic right, and maybe I took the me being rude thing a little too strongly, for that I am also sorry. I don't plan to misuse or try to blowtorch any knife I have in half, I just don't see the point in abusing a good tool that is supposed to last forever, i'm looking for a company who will stand behind their product 100% no questions asked, unless abuse has obviously occurred to the knife. Thank you for complimenting the list. I have also heard Entrek has a good warranty, anyone know more about that?

I think most 'reputable' company's will stand behind their product.. remember if you break one esee and return it your chances of getting a second one the next time around may be limited....... just saying, most people that break them on purpose will be DENIED the second time around...............................they'll most likely just give you back your money...
