This was $2.50 on the half-price day at an estate sale.

It feels a lot better than it looks. That is, it looks like one of the lightweight rattly-guard knives everybody used to make and often sold en suite with a flat steel-handled hatchet. But this is thicker stock, swedged, and non-rattly.

Worst case scenario, it's the best one of its type I've ever seen. Very hard steel, too; I'm still working on an edge. I'm thinking about a sheath: it balances at the inboard rivet.

Is that some form of utica sportsman ( looks like their delrin, and they're known to be thicker ) or is it some Japanese copy ?
I would've put my imperial h6 version of one of these outers knives ( been edcing it for the past month ) but it costed me 18$ from a forum member so it's disqualified.

I don't know about "treasure" :p but here are a few of my <$10 finds.

Disclaimer: I'm pretty new to traditional knives and traditional knife collecting and, well, any knife collecting other than Spydercos, so I don't really know what any of these are worth. I mean, it's hard to go very wrong on an <$10 knife, but part of me is kinda worried someone's gonna make fun of my choices. & It doesn't really seem like that's the attitude here, but socially awkward and self conscious are pretty much my default states of mind. Sorry in advance. :o

I'm a sucker for the sad little knives no one seems to want. These first two JA Henckels knives were $10 each and were re-listed several times. I can see why no one wanted the little yellow one. I'm not a fan of the yellow... celluloid, I guess it is? Or the sleeveboard shape. Or the tiny size. But the fact that the blades have been sharpened so much makes me think someone used this little thing like crazy. Someone found it useful and appreciated it at some point. & The blades are still nice and snappy and I was able to get a decent edge on 'em. *shrug*

The silver one isn't fancy or flashy, but other than scuffs and scratches on the blades, there's nothing wrong with it that I can see. And I do like a knife with a file.

This little trick knife I posted in the other thread was $7.

Two Buck knives. 303 has a new home. The little 506 is too cute not to keep. :D

A couple of Vic gardners. The red one is so I can practice removing and replacing the pins as prep for a future mod attempt.

Two Camillus knives in pretty rough shape. TSA seizure lot; $14 for both. Bought just to see if I can clean them up and get them working again.

I've also scrounged around and have quite a few Swiss Army Knives that I bought crazy cheap, various models although mostly Wenger because I'm partial to Wenger, like $1-5 each, with the intention of using them for parts for modding other SAKs. Some I ended up giving away and some are in such good shape that I kind of hate to take them apart now. :o

That little thing is neat, but wouldn't the blade want to close while using the bottle opener?

Also, that's a pretty nice problem to have! :D

Not a bottle opener but the hidden locking mechanism the knife uses to stay closed. :)

Here was a bottom of the box $5 special at the gun show.

I really don't know what it is. You got me googling, and it certainly looks like the Utica jigging. Some of them were black synthetic like this, but all the Utica Sportsmans I saw have the flamboyant stamp on the blade saying so, and I didn't see any with the swedge.
On the other hand, I would expect a Japanese one to be stamped Japan. This one has no marks at all, and intact enough plating that nothing can have been ground or worn off.
Maybe Utica made it for somebody else, but why not stamp the somebody else's name on it?

Japanese stuff wasn't always stamped.
It could also maybe be a hammer brand or a spear brand ( spear had a cool one that was a much broader version of these, and they had a standard version ) maybe it was just a soft strike and what stamp was there rusted away ? My imperial has a fairly soft stamp on it.
Either way that's a cool knife and it probably looked sweet before it was sharpened so much.

Old Robeson, looked like a beat up brass cheap keyring knife till I cleaned it up and found hand hammered silver scales and the Robeson mark on the tang, way under $10.

I had that Buck as part of a Lee Iaccoca Liberty renovation fund, that coin I a piece of the copper that was taken off and struck as a commemorative to raise money for the restoration. Mine was the Executive IIRC which was similarly shaped but came with molded/poured clear acrylic scales over the coin and a 24kt gold cutout of the statue. It also came with a signed certificate of authenticity, signed by both Iaccoca and Buck. Paid about $25 for it and kept it in bnib just to sell to make a profit. If I remember I think I sold it for between $75-$90 but that was after hangin' on to it for nearly 20 years.

Cool little knife, hang on to it, it's a piece of history and a piece of the actual statue. :)

All under 10 Bucks.
deltaboy, would you mind sharing with us what exactly you have there? I see the top 3 are Schrade Old Timers and there's a Rough Rider Barlow in there. What else do you have in that photo? Thanks!

Actually, I think most of it is still with us, other than a bit of concavity toward the tang. It's very hard steel, I know from sharpening it (maybe not done yet). I can't see any sign of a stamp or an area that might have had a stamp, but whatever it is, it's a good little knife. Thanks for your interest.

No problem, they're a cool knife design and I love them. I think I like how they look like a cowboys belt knife ( minus the stag scales of course ) I hope to eventually end up with a few more of these.

I just picked up this little Colonial stiletto for $8. I thought it was pretty cool. Anybody have any info, I'd greatly appreciate it.
