Under knifed?

I don't believe I've ever felt "under knifed". I have typically chosen my carry knives based on what I thought I would use/need them for that day. If I thought I would need a heavy-duty fixed-blade that day, that's what I carried. If I thought I would need a small knife for light cutting that day, that's what I carried. I usually get it right.

I've never suddenly found myself stranded in the woods, needing to build a shelter with only a small folder, or equipped with only a big fixed-blade, and needing to perform emergency surgery on someone 😁.

The only time I can think of when I might have come close to feeling "under knifed" was when I got trapped in my home bathroom by a busted door knob.
Perhaps you should place a small hammer and a 1/8” pin punch in your medicine cabinet, to pop the hinge pins. Then the size of your knife wouldn’t matter at all.

I usually always have a couple of knives, they don't really do anything different from one another, I just have a clipped and a slipped one and it's because I like them. They're just for my own enjoyment, I don't see a scenario where I would need to use them like a weapon and I don't do the kind of chores that require any particular blade length, so they're often basically the same kind of knife but just different designs.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Enjoy what you carry and use it if need be.

My user EDC looks something like this if I have the pocket room to spare.

I very rarely feel under knifed. And actually I've come to the firm realization after many years that my ideal blade lenght is 3"-3.3". That's the perfect sized folder for me. I can do anything I need to do on my daily routines and knives with that size blade tend to fit my handle perfectly. If I'm doing anything outdoorsy, I bring along a fixed blade. It used to be an ESEE 4 for a few years but I had kind of a crazy life event and made a fast move across the state and left my whole knife collection behind. The only knives I brought were what was in my camping bag. So now days I carry an old school Carbon V SRK or a traditional Mora.

Anyone ever really felt under knifed?

I'm not a seriously experimented guy but I don't see the need for knife over 3" and by 3", I mean 1 1/2" straight and 1 1/2" upward. I'd go as far as saying I don't see the need for over 2" if it's a seax blade. I sometime feel like my 3 1/2" blade is too long for precise task.

Of course I take out food and fighting knife, both having different construction need.

Any other thinking like me?
Yes. I don’t ever feel over tooled. There are appropriate tools for everything and that applies to knives as well.

I never feel under knifed, but sometimes, when I'm carry just a single blade folder or fixed blade, I feel under tooled.
Often, I need a handy tool much more than I need a knife.
That is why I find myself carrying my Leatherman Wave or one of my Victorinox SAKs more than my Bucks or Spydercos or Benchmades.

After carrying this a lot...

...everything else seems ridiculously too small to cut anything. And oh does it slice...

It chops! It lops! It slices! It dices! It peels! It pokes! It stabs! It jabs! Bread! Apples! Turkeys! Catfish! Crappie! Bass! Moose! Toothpaste! Peanut butter! String! Zip ties! Cardboard! Letters! Paper! Pizza! Toenails! Hay bales! Bananas!!! 🍌

No, I like to be prepared, along with also liking knives 🙂 so I like the idea of carrying a smaller key chain and/or S.A.K., / multi-tool along with clipped straight edged along with serrated edged folders and a fixed blade, with a larger fixed in my vehicle.
B.T.B.
I wonder if this guy was feeling "under knifed". 🤔 If so, I guess he fixed that.

Talk about your 'I can't decide which fixed blade to carry syndrome' Lol

With that odd stance I’d say he’s just looking for attention…gotta let everyone know he’s not one to mess with. 🙄

Let's think
4" in a pocket
9" on belt
12/60" spear in hand
Not underknifed at all !

One knife on me and I am fine.
2.9 inch blade and above has been all I require.

Our “knife needs” will obviously vary depending on profession, hobbies, circumstances, and laws. Running the risk of oversimplification though, I think all you really need for pocket EDC is a Para 3 or something similar in size (Mini Grip, small Sebbie, Mini Recon 1, etc.). I would not feel under-knifed with a Para 3 or Native 5 in non-SHTF situations. Think about it this way: jaguars get along just fine with 1.5” claws. Your 3” blade will do the job just fine. Probably.
Well yeah, but don’t Jaguars have like 16 of em?!

Nope. The only knife I carry is a CRK Mnandi. It does absolutely everything I need a knife for. Like knarfeng knarfeng I carried the Buck 303 for many many years and it was never not enough for me. The G19 takes care of any protection requirements.

That happened to me, too. Years ago in an old apartment in Hollywood. The bathroom gods must have been smiling upon me that day because I happened to have left a hammer and a flathead screwdriver in the can. Took the pins out of the door hinges. If I'd only had a knife, I'd probably still be in there.

I always carried slipjoint pocketknives since the late ‘70s, and when I went to live in Taiwan for a decade, the only knife I took with me and carried every day was my Victorinox Spartan SAK. I also carried it as my only EDC knife for a few more years after I returned Stateside. I never felt ‘under knifed’ during that time; I did everything I needed to do with that knife, blade-wise. Then I got back into the knife thing.

I still carry a SAK everyday, usually an Executive, with either a Spartan or Pioneer. I also carry a Spyderco, within the PM2, Manix 2, or Para 3 size ranges. Sometimes I choose something bigger, like my Military. I also just ordered a Native Chief, so that will become my main clip carry knife for awhile. Not because I absolutely need a 4”+ long blade on my clip carry knife, but because I want to, and I can.

I don't recall ever thinking, "Gee, I sure wish I had a smaller knife."
I seem to recall thinking that right after I ran the tip of a Ka-Bar through my middle finger...
