Underrated Cutlery Brands ?

Marble's knives, are/were a great value at one time. I'm not sure about these days. They have undergone changes under different ownership regimes. The older ones made in Gladstone, MI are great! If you see one of these older ones, jump on it.

I have an older Woodcraft model i bought a long time ago. It was just too nice to use. I could tell it was a classic. So i just put it away. And i'm glad i did. I didn't pay much at all for it when it was new and it has increased in value tremendously. :)

I think revolvers are very cool. Buck 110's have seen their day.

I'm happy to have to tell you that your absolutely wrong:D the classic buck 110 certainly has not seen it's day. For people who appreciate traditional knives and have come to realize that for an edc knife ( which is a tool ) they don't need to open their knife lightening fast, because whatever they need to cut will still be there in 2 seconds. And that the 110 still gets the job done as well as it ever has and will continue to do so.

I don't mind being wrong about the 110. ;)

The under rated knives are generally those that I have little knowledge or experience with.

Taylor (both Smith & Wesson and Schrade)
Enlan
SanRenMu
Ganzo
Harnds
Inron
Kizer

I would say that Kizer is underrated, my Ray Laconico "Intrepid" is awesome. It's smooth as butter, carries great and locks up perfectly at about 40%. With the steel insert I shouldn't have to worry about over travel as a tend to flip mine a lot.

Buck knives, especially the 110. Underrated I suspect due to price point and 420HC. That said, Buck 110s have that special something when held in the hand and used but do not get the respect they deserve because many today do not appreciate the 110's virtues and therefore miss out on a very good knife, a very good value and the net result is the brand, particularly that model, being underrated, IMO.

KaBar makes some really good designs and has the 1095 thing down! Moreover, the Becker line is a very underrated line of knives for users who appreciate functionality and durability. Their lack of whiz-bang super steels of the week and jewelry-esque style prevents some for experiencing the brand and the net result is the brand is underrated.

OK, I'm looking for neither approval nor flame throwing ... but Cold Steel has some decent offerings that provide value. Particularly coming to mind are the Voyager folders in AUS8 - talk about bang for the buck. They are very serviceable and, due to the AUS8 (which I do not dislike) and the reputation/perception of the CS company, be it derserved or not, has caused many to ignore the brand and the net result is the brand is underrated.

Marbles made knives in 52100 which were undervalued at the time of release but I suspect that now some folks have come to appreciate their designs, material selections and execution.

yeah i've been needing to get a southern grind knife. probably one of the only cutlery brands that i have no knives from

yeah you can find some really nice marbles nowadays big fan of there fixed blades and budget machetes

I agree with Buck. I also think Case is underrated. Since GEC has come on the scene and blown the traditional market out of the water, I think people see Case for what they are lacking in comparison to GEC rather than what they are. Which is a good American company that produces decent traditional knives at decent prices. I'm not speaking from a collector stand point because I don't collect them. I use my Bucks and my Case knives and they work very well for everything I put them through. The PM2, mini grip, etc. ride as a back up to my traditionals.

I just thought of another cutlery brand that I don't hear anyone taking about.
Martini makes some great user knives at high value prices.

I don't think a lot of people think of the two as separate brands. When you say HK instantly I think BM. HK is a brand of knives named after a brand of firearms but made by a brand of knives.

Kind of hard to stand out when you do that. Whatever though they have some cool stuff running the HK logo. Wish they'd just put Benchmade on them though.

Are Ontario knives underrated? I really like the RAT 2 as a great EDC.. I almost never hear anything about them compared to the usual suspects: Delica, Mini Grip., Kershaw Skyline, etc., which are also great EDCs.

Mcusta - been eying one for a while, and just picked up a Quincewood Tactility last week.

Picked up a Kizer Vanguard Gemini not too long ago, and it seems to be a good value knife. Detent is too weak for my taste, which might ultimately be a dealbreaker. (My very first folder opened in my pocket the first day I had it, and took a good bite out of my palm.)
