Just received it..

The bevels are uneven, stamps are not good... I'd say pretty poor QC for a $475 knife.. its the last strider I will buy. The top looks like somebody ran it under a belt sander (uneven there as well).. WTF...

I'm dropping it off tomorrow at my local knife shop to have a 20deg bevel put on in the hopes it will be able to cut something...jeez...I should have listened to the others on the forum. I think after having it fixed myself it will make a great general purpose prybar/util knife. I like the knife overall so I'm keeping it.. not impressed tho..

If you are getting a knife for somebody overseas.. I'd say look elsewhere unless they want an overpriced s30v sharp prybar/skull crusher. I think the kabar has better QC. I'm not trying to bash Strider as this specific specimen may not be a representative sample, could have slipped by, was used to train the sharpening team... but it seems its a trend as I read here on the forums.

I'll post some pix after its fixed..

Take a few pix before it is fixed, otherwise they will swarm you like flies, calling you a liar.

Wow its your first post!

If it walks like a troll
If it smells like a troll
If it posts like a troll

then..........

IT MUST BE A TROLL!!!!!!!!

Everybody lets not post in this trolls thread PLEASE!!!!

He's not a troll, he bought a $475 knife and it had several fit and finish issues. I would send back a $100 knife to the manufacturer if it had defects such as that. And that's what I reccomend Skankpile, send it back to strider and request they fix every issue or send you a new knife. It's his first post, give him some slack.

two things....

1st, if you are spending that kind of money, you better do a little bit better job at looking around before you buy....
Thats a HUGE amount of money to spend and not be happy.

2nd, there is just NO WAY that a guy spending that much money would allow some local knife guy to start grinding away at it...

What are you going to do if the local guy makes a mess of it?...who can you blame?....only yourself!

My advice,,,,,I know from posts here on the forum that Strider stands behind his knives....
But every once in a while a rejected knife gets placxed into the wrong pile and sent out....
But Im sure if you send the knife back to Strider and ask real nice for them to fix the parts that are clearly in error, that they will be happy to.

that way you have a safety net incase something goes wrong...

so,,DONT hand it to a local boy to start grinding on before you contact Strider and talk to him about being unhappy with a knife...

allow the gentelman to fix it...

i dont think he is a troll either. there are several qualifiers in his post indicating he is not.

and i agree with alan, send it to strider. having anyone else do any work will likely void any warranty. striders warranty is pretty good.

sorry guys.. not a troll. I bought a knife I could beat the hell out of.. and I've got it.. I just expected it to be better.

I'm going to use it mainly in the brush and wanted a quality piece.. if you think I'm a troll I really dont care.. buy one yourself and give me your opinion. I'm just posting some facts. I buy $200 benchmades all day and love them, so another $300 for a great S30V fixed blade I can carry in the rain that will last is a non issue. And whats so special about grinding on S30V.. big whoop..its a piece of steel, and not a $5000 display katana.

Anyways..what other knife can you stab trashcans with, pry/hammer on garage doors & fences, hack limbs for tree stand, slam open rusty master locks, and pry bob-wire back in place etc.. so I got a strider.. it will work it just needed a little TLC after I got it brand new..

Yeah your right he's NOT a troll:
It does not matter if the guy was just here to talk trash or not,
The correct thing for us to do is to treat him with respect of one who is really searching for help.
and in this case, the help I would offer any such person with a problem knife is to contack the maker and allow the maker to fix things so that in the end, everyone is happy.....

The guys made two posts and you all have already labeled him without justification. I think its a bit premature and unwarranted to be jumping to conclusions. If he spent that kind of money and is unhappy he has every right to voice concern. Let him state his case and give the details before moving forward with this troll stuff. Just my two cents worth.

STR

Before you give it to your local knife shop, do they know what they're doing? My suggestion is ship it to Tom Krien (if he'll do it) and have him thin it out

Wow , I'm new to this computer stuff. Let me ask, what dictates one as being a troll? I don't want to be one, I just like knives. Hope I don't make anyone mad with what I write on this forum.
As with the accused troll I have been eyeballing a strider for some time now. If I spent that kind of money on a knife and it wasn't made to my standards I would send it back. Also I would like other BF's members to give me a heads up before I drop $400 on a production knife.

My local knife guy rebevels chef's knives around town; and darn good job he does. If they trust their tools with him.. I'm sure I can hand over my 1/4" steel hunting knife.

Even if I sent it back to Strider they would prolly send out another 30deg bevel (no thanks)... I'm trying my luck elsewhere. Its S30V if I want to slam the edge I turn it around to the backside where it is dull or sideways to slap livestock.. I like a sharp edge on my beater. Even with a wide blade if you are cutting something soft the thick strider still does well.. but s30v can do better than 30deg in my book no matter the knife..just my red-neck opinion..

you people are wearing me out.. I never should have said anything...

well it is your knife,,,,But I think you are going to make a very big error if you dont contact the maker of the knife and ask them for their advice.
They know their knives, they should be able to offer you some good advice.

Strider really does stand behind his knives when many other makers would say you were___out of luck...

I again ask you to think about just sending Strider Knives an email, talk about ther knife, send a photo, Im sure they can make you happy,,,
Try to put yourself in the maker's position, would you not want to be able to try and fix a knife that someone spent a lot of money on?...sure you would....

I bought a $75 Buck from a retailer that was no good - so I sent it back and got my credit card charges refunded.

If it's not right - don't accept it.

You paid Strider $500 bucks I would trust him to fix it and then have it thinned out by Tom Krien. If your local knife guy is so skilled he should be selling $500 production knives. Both Mick and Duane are world class custom knife makers, if they have to put that to use to make you happy they will (they both have folders that are over 1k for that are hand made versions of there knives). If you trust them enough to buy a 500 production from them, trust there skill to fix it. If they made every knife by hand it would not be a problem but small factories can have CQ issues, comes with trying to pump out such good numbers. They know about it and will jump to make it right. Not saying a $500.00 midtech should have QC issues but it is well known that Strider does.

Dont worry to much about getting called a troll. People here can eb on edge from hearing there favorite brand put down all the time. Sometimes people try to bring old subjects up even though they have already said there peace several times over. Some even make new acounts to bring up the same old BS. The fact is that no one should jump to such comclucions when the price of bieng wrong is the harrasment and alienation of a new member. We sometimes forget our manners when online but we shouldnt.

huh? I don't get how that link shows that the author of this post is a troll . . . ???
Oh - you edited while I was typing, nebbermind.
