Supposed to have been 500 of these made but I've only ever seen this one. I thought at first it might be one of Chuck's brothers knives. Dunno! Different with the heavy blade stock and short 3.5inch blade...can't make up my mind if I like it or not?

Wow Flats, that's some thick steel!I've never seen a Buck like it.Looks like it would make a good skinner, pelvis splitter,or whatever.

That is a different look for a Buck. I like it except for the thick stock, seems way over built for skinning.

Nice! I like it, but I prefer a big "chunk o'steel" for a lot of thinks since I'm hard on stuff.

Being an old, traditionalist, I kinda like the thing. A little too much handle for me, but, it's interesting. I like a hefty chunk of steel, but, I like it short and wide.

Gordon, It's a Jim Cabela 919. I have #141/500. I was told that they did not order all 500, but only the first 250. I don't know if that's so.

Wow. I liked it until I saw the spine shot. How immediately does the grind drop off? Does it still have a pretty thick edge?

Kind of reminds me of "if Buck and Busse had an offspring thats what it might look like kind of thing".

There is one very much like that one in Buck's museum at their plant in Post Falls . Yes, its a bit thick for a skinner . Thanks for posting the photo, indeed a handsome knife . DM

When I first looked at it, I wasn't sure. But the more I look at it, I really like it.
I think I would like it even more, if the steel was a little thinner

Hi G,
Very interesting knife. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Jerry! I had no idea what a 919 looked like until now.

I like the stag & nice shape of the blade. I don't know if I like the odd U shaped guard that is open at the top....looks cheap (but, that's just me). It would be nice if folks who have the custom skinners would at least post some photo's on the BCCI web site so the rest of us would know what they look like.

Hi H,

I just looked at the BCCI site and the 919 is a Apache Bowie. The Apache Bowie has a very different shape. Buck has been known to use model numbers over again. Can you check your Jim Cabela knife to confirm it's model number?
Thank you
