Back in January I had to make a trip outside the US so I shipped a box containing a few Fiddlebacks and my portable knife care supplies (small waterstone, strops, glitz etc) to myself at the address I would be returning to. I shipped USPS priority with extra insurance and tracked the shipment. Once I saw delivered (to a business address) i paid no further attention and tossed the receipt with tracking and insurance details.
Fast forward 8 weeks and I have arrived at shipment destination, but..no box:(

The Post office have been helpful but can shed no light on where the package may be as it was classed as delivered. I guess it's lesson learned, retain details until shipment is in hand.

Anyhow, if any of the knives below show up for sale somewhere please let me know:

My first Fiddleback - Maple Burl Kephart (with RLo sheath)

Stubby Muk - Bocote (with HJE pocket slip sheath)

Runt - BEB bolsters, mosaics...stunning...with HJE pocket sheath, my initials JSP on sheath

Long shot I know, thanks for listening.

Jason,

As i no longer have the tracking details I will struggle to be able to claim the insurance. I will be trying again tomorrow but after talking to the local post office hopes are slim. Out of hundreds of USPS shipments this is the first to go astray, just a pity it concerns some special knives.

Bear,

Is the insurance going to pay for them? I hope so.

Jason

Jules, I'm sorry to here that bro. I'll definitely let you know if I see them.

That sucks!

In regards to making a claim on the insurance, take a look at the "Feedback" sub-forum here. There is a guy (cannot remember his name) that posts there regularly and works for the USPS. He recently gave a fairly detailed explanation on how to successfully make a claim on postal insurance (again, I cannot remember the thread). The member provided some great advice, and it might be worth it for you to spend some time searching for the thread or make a post in that sub-forum.

This past holiday season was definitely not a stellar one for the USPS it seems. They lost a couple of mine, and one took 6 weeks to wks to make it to the other side of the state...

Do you remember the original purchase date of the Kephart? The spalting is like fingerprints but that pic is small. I think a larger file could be gotten from Fotki if you know the date.

Are you thinking of PMSteve (post master Steve) on BCUSA?

No, although with a name like that I am sure he would be helpful. I believe Esav Benyamin (one of the mods) worked / works for USPS, but that is not who I am thinking about either. I wish I could remember the member's name...

Hey Mist,

The Kephart was originally purchased in June 2013 from USA Made Blade. Since then it has survived a typhoon and was given a pretty thorough spa treatment by Andy. The last time I saw it it had a heavy patina. I'll drag up a larger picture.

Quick update - by contacting the post office where i shipped I hope that with my credit card transaction details I can at least retrieve tracking and use the insurance if the package can't be found. many thanks for all your concern and suggestions.

Cheers,

Jules
