*Update* 8/10 First Becker recommendation?

I love the 9, but the 16 is likely more practical. Ultimately you need to get both. And I agree with what some of the folks have said: get the 15 now that it's on sale.

Jeez....with a title like that, it's wonder a fight didn't break out....

I'm gonna say 9!
Excellent design & very versatile---very well done!
But as mentioned the 15's are a sweet price now...You can always pickup a 16 or 17 later.

You cant go wrong with any of them. As others have said the 4,5 and 15 are all at discounted prices right now, so you should probably get one of those as well as one from your 7,0,16 choices.

The correct answer is "all of them at once'" for your first. Then you can try them out at your own pace and learn which one you like the best. :D

Good luck with your choice :D its a hard one!

If I were you... I'd evaluate your current knife collection, then base your decision off of what you are lacking. Take a hatchet with your camping? get the 16. Looking for a 1 knife does it all? or if you have all your bases already covered? get a 9 just because its 'The King'.

I was wondering where you got the add on sheath(?) for the firesteel? Thanks for responding...

Thats not the stock sheath, but an aftermarket kydex with the firesteel loop built in.

Oh, and, if you've never used a large knife before, perhaps the 9 is the best choice here. It will be a fun first experience :).

I'm going to pretend you have no other knives for a moment, Korben. You go into the woods and you:

A) Grab your 16. It will do almost anything you want ... but it's going to have limitations when chopping.

B) Grab your 9. It will do everything you want including chopping and detail work. But it's BIG. And carrying it on your hip while hiking a long distance might be a bit cumbersome. At the very least, the 9 won't let you forget it's on your hip.

C) Grab both. The 16 on your belt and the 9 in your pack. All bases covered.

I've seen some guys who carry the 9 and one of the small Beckers instead of the 16. Also a good option. But then, it's the 9 doing most of the work.

I would say a BK2, but going on your list I would say BK16 for your first one.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

If budget is limited, the best solution would then be a 4 and 15. Both on clearance sale ($60, $40) and can do whatever a 9/16 combo can.

Alright guys because of the awesome sale price I picked up the bk15 before heading into work last night. Next up will be the bk9 for sure. Now the wait beings, hopefully it will be here by Saturday. If so it will be stripped by Saturday night/sunday morning. I reckon it'd be great for outdoor food prep and can't wait to test her out.

Thanks for all the recommendations!

Will bump this thread with pics when she arrives.

Congrats! The 15 is my fav.

Next up will be the bk9 for sure.
And so the addiction begins. ;)

Ya know, the basic BK setup is a Small, Medium, and Large. The 15 is your Medium and the 9 will be your Large.

For the Small, there's the 11, 14, or 24, any of which will work just fine. ;)

Why not add the 9 on your cart while you're waiting for your 15?:D

I'd love to but my wife would introduce a frying pan to back of my head. That'd be the third blade in two months. I reckon this time next month she'll be fine with it

And if not I'll have to buy a gift card for a distant relatives birthday, my great Uncle Becker :D

Just let her try out the 15 if/when she does any cooking. You won't get it back, but that frees you up to buy another one to replace it, and hey look, how did this 9 make it into my cart?
