Just opened the box of my new Hinderer Full Track in M390 Spear Point. Great design, feels good in hand, AWESOME FLIPPING ACTION!

Unfortunately there’s terrible lock stick right out of the box. See the video. Sometimes I can get it to unlock with one hand and sometimes it takes two. A couple of times I had trouble with two hands.

I’m so $&?!@#! Tired of buying high end knives and dealing with nasty issues! My Sebenza had even worse lock stick after a few openings. Took almost two months to get it back.

The Hinderer XM-18 at the beginning of the video went back to the factory for detent ball work twice in the first 10 months. Was gone for about 2 months for repair. $34 of shipping out of my pocket and loss of use on top of an already expensive knife.

Now this $600 knife isn’t useable right out of the box! I’m sorry, but EVERY $600 production knife that leaves the factory should be opened and closed a lot of times to ensure smooth and perfect operation. QC before you ship the knives Hinderer!

Now I have to pay to ship this knife back to DLT. I’m officially done with Hinderer and other high end USA manufacturered knives. One bad knife is a fluke. The three most expensive knives I’ve ever purchased...

Yikes. Looks like you've had some really bad luck thus far. The lock stick is crazy. Aren't these knives equipped with an insert like all of the newer generation Hinderers? I've personally never experienced lock stick with an insert. Very out of character. Beyond that, I've owned a good 5-6 XMs (no insert) and none have had stick. Terrible action? You betcha, but never stick.

I think you've just had some really bad luck. Reeve knives are some of the best QC wise.

Shoot them an email regarding shipping, I've no doubt they'll take care of you.

Reate is awesome, if you end up going rogue.

I agree I have never had a knife with a metal (or ceramic) lockbar insert from any company stick.

Before you send it back just make sure there’s no oil on the lock face of the blade.

I have several WE Knives that are PERFECT. Hate to buy imported knives when I should be able to spend two to three times as much and get equal quality from a respected USA made knife.

You can. To say otherwise is silly.

You've just had a string of bad luck. I can tell you that every Reeve knife I've owned is pretty close to perfect fit and finish wise. Can say the same for most other high end Americsn knives I've owned.

So far I haven’t been able to buy equal quality. $1475.00 on three knives and I have yet to end up with anything close to the same quality. Call it silly if you want but I (me not you or the rest of BF) should reasonably expect to get at least one good knife right out of the box after spending so much money on high end knives from reputable manufacturers.

Wow you truly have bad luck. I have no complain whatsoever with these manufacturers. All knives were beyond my expectations, especially the Hinderers.

It looks like every time you try to close the knife, your index finger is applying pressure to the spine of the blade? If so, that would definitely attribute to lock stick. However, seems like you've just had a little bad luck... I've owned 4 Hinderer's and all had zero lock stick.

OP - sorry to see that. Other peoples great experience with RHK or CRK is irrelevant here. Return the knife for a full refund including shipping fees or an exchange ASAP. Do not wait for break in or try the sharpie trick. It should not for such an expensive knife.

Here’s a video making sure my finger is off the blade spine.

Wow, that is some pretty intense lock stick even if there wasn't an insert there in a way that I haven't seen in any knife I've owned, including my Gen 6 xm-18. Crazy that it left the factory like that because holy shit. Who was the person on the tuning card it came with?

Furthermore, you have had a REALLY bad go of it man. I've never held a sebenza or a hinderer with anywhere near approaching what you described.

Hell the Sebenza 21 had to be disassembled on a couple of occasions to get it to unlock it was so bad! Guess this is a step up... haha!

My Full Track from DLT gets here in a few days. I’ll let you know how she is.. Fingers crossed!
I wouldn’t hesitate to send that back immediately and demand shipping.
Unacceptable on a $200 knife, yet alone a $600 knife!

Every single knife that leaves Hinderer should be QCd to catch something like that.
$30 Kershaw, yeah, sure.

That's some sticky stick!

Hope they get you sorted out. I've heard 99 percent glowing reviews on their new full track. Looks like you may have a folding pocket knife dud curse. Maybe do a return and have someone else proxy a replacement.

You have definately walked under a ladder where a black cat was pearched atop of and must have stumbled and broken the mirror leaning by the ladder ... you have hit the gambit of bad luck it appears ...

I won't down play your bad experiences but I have to mention that I own over 10 of both CRKs and Hinderers and I have only ever had one issue and that was a weak detent on one Hinderer ... no lock stick ...

but if I had any knife with a lock sticking near anything protrayed in that video it would be a return and it would be on wherever I bought the knife's penny ...

and I believe both CRK or Rick Hinderer would do you right if you contacted them ... but personally it should be returned to the dealer you purchased it from ... and a refund issued if you don't want the dealer to hand pick you a knife that is a "normal" example of the craftsmanship these knives normally come with ...

I hope you get the issue worked out ... and if you ever want to experience a "normal" CRK or Hinderer ... call Jordan @ DLT or Knives Ship Free or Whitty @ USA Made Blade or a handful of other dealers that would gladly hand pick you a knife and checkout any issue you might worry about ...

the ones mentioned I have personally asked them to hand pick a knife a time or two for special occasions ... they were great to help out.

This is only my 2nd Hinderer. It’s my third high end knife of three high end knife purchases to come out of the box with problems.

Funny thing is every Benchmade I’ve ever purchased had excellent fit and finish out of the box. Perfect centering and no issues!

I emailed DLT about the Full Track and let them know about the lock stick issue.

Really wanted to like the Full Track and hoped to gain confidence in Hinderer Knives.

I haven't been impressed with the latest gen Hinderers. The detent has been atrocious on both of the Gen 6s I've owned, and my current Gen 6 from DLT has a small amount of vertical play that you can feel when you force the blade. It seems like this generation needed more development time.

I wouldn't bother trying to get a replacement.

The crazy thing about lock stick is that it can happen at any time. We have seen knives from all makers have lock stick. You can open it 100 times with no problem and then all of the sudden lock stick appears. I have been at Hinderer and helped with the assembly. Trust me if it had this kind of lock stick while at the Ranch it would have never gone out the door. While this is not a common issue with Hinderer, CRK or any other maker, it does happen.

To the OP. I am so sorry for your issues. As others have said it really does look like you have had a bad run of luck. I hate that it has turned you off to Hinderer and CRK but can certainly understand you having a bad taste in your mouth. I would hope and believe if you call DLT, they will do everything in their power to make you happy. If you like the knife otherwise, give them a chance to send you a replacement. Maybe one more time at bat and you will hit a home run.
