UPDATE: My Current Knife Collection - Any Suggestions?

Thanks for all the suggestions!! Seems like a lot of people are suggesting fixed blades and Spyderco's, haha. I was never into Spyderco's designs when shopping online, but guess I just have to get my hands on some of them in person now since they seem to be so popular. If I learned anything over the years, seeing them in person really makes a difference :D

Dang..that Infidel makes me drool. There is a few Benchmades I really like, namely the Bedlam and the Rift. I guess I would suggest a good fixed blade for slicing and one for wood processing.

Huh, I have never considered the Bedlam before. Is it a fairly popular model?

You seem to lean towards BMs. How about a 300-1? They're a bit chunky, but I like the nice hefty blade & the action is the smoothest of all my BMs.
Or
Spyderco PM 2. My favorite Spyderco.
Orrrr
CRK Sebenza. Pick your flavor. They're all outstanding.

I'll look into the 300-1! And yeah, got a couple suggestions on the PM 2, so definitely gonna look into that one. As for the Sebeza... cost T.T But yeah, I heard that they are considered the best production EDC folder... ever

Nice collection and thanks for sharing the pics!

I'll always regret not having bought a Ruckus when they were made. Good looking knife.

Thanks!! Yeah, I didn't like the Rukus design when I first saw it online, but it blew my mind in person!

I was the same way with spyderco's until I got my hands on one. I ended up edc'ing a manix 2 for about 3 years after that until I switched jobs and no longer really needed a 1 hand opener.
You really start to appreciate the design more once you realize how well made they are for what you want them to do.

Me too. I knew Spydercos were well regarded in knife circles, but I avoided them because I just thought they looked funny. When I actually handled a PM2, I came to realize that they were made for use & not for looks. Since then I've picked up a Manix2 LW, a Native LW 110 & a yojimbo2.

It seems as though folks are EITHER Benchmade or Spyderco fans; not both. I've owned and carried a few BM's and they were good knives, although I never quite accepted 154cm. I am primarily a Spydie lover and highly suggest that you try out a PM2 (suggested earlier) or perhaps a waved Endura model. The waved Enduras are NOT expensive, but favorites of many LEO's.
The Brad Southard mid-tech AVO is a primary in my EDC line, and ZT's are also big. Most of the ZT's that I've owned are too large, too heavy-duty for my casual use. I recently got in a model 0880 that is mid-sized and I really like it. I don't like anything over five ounces... Just my opinion...
Very nice collection that you have...

^^Haha, glad to know that I'm not the only one who avoided them because of their looks, but man, I guess I should really get one in hand. Hopefully be able to test some if I can find one from a friend or smth too!

Thanks for all the suggestions you made! Was curious, what would you say Spydie offers you that makes you primarily a Spydie lover? (why Spydie over Benchmade for instance)

I have some of each, but a few more Spydercos. They are simply a better value, particularly after BM made a BM all over us with their enforced price fixing.

Bedlams are older model Persian style blades, 4 inches long, almost a pocket sword. I never really take it out of the house but it does get used in the kitchen, for veggie slicing. Not sure how popular they are.

Hello everyone,

Just showing off my small collection so far. Not as big as some of the others on here, but I'm still proud of it. :p There were a few knives that came and went, but here are the ones that stayed.

Benchmade:

Benchmade 940-1 Osborne (First Production)
Benchmade 921 Switchback
Benchmade 923SBK Switchback (Prototype Jan. 2005)
Benchmade 923SBK Switchback
Benchmade 10700 Nagara (Prototype Sept. 2008)
Benchmade 13740 Harley Davidson Nagara
Benchmade 235 Paul Axial (First Production)
Benchmade 482 Megumi (First Production)
Benchmade 482 Megumi

Benchmade 6150SBK Mini-Rukus (Prototype Dec. 2006)
Benchmade 32 Mini-Morpho (Prototype Feb. 2006)
Benchmade 3300 Infidel (Damascus Special Edition)

The 3300 Infidel Special Edition is my holy grail, as I am a huge Benchmade fan. This knife features a Damascus blade with "Special Edition" written on it and a regular 3300 handle/scales, unlike it's Gold Class counterpart, the 3300-81. I got this from a retired Benchmade manufacturing rep, who had won this as his prize for Top Salesman in a contest several years ago. I contacted Benchmade for more information on the knife, and they had a product service team do an investigation for me. They later told me that they were unable to find any info on it as it was never produced for the public, and that it must have been made solely for an internal sales contest. Probably one of the rarest Benchmade knives out there!

Other Knives:

Opinel No. 6
Opinel No. 7
Opinel No. 7 (Carbon steel)
Opinel No. 8 Luxe (Bubinga)
Gerber Torch 1
Buck 503T
CRKT Ripple K405BXP Aqua Blue
MCUSTA Katana MC-0043C
Ontario Rat Model II

As you can see, I tend to lean towards Benchmade and have a couple of the same ones. Any suggestions for my next purchase? I'll consider any brand though. Post below! :D

You need more buck ( especially a 110, and 119 ) and maybe a vintage western or two,a kabar mk2 wouldn't hurt either.

Impressive collection! I can see you like slim knives. Maybe it is the time to try out some beefy knives like ZT?

Thanks!! :D I usually go for folders, but I'll definitely consider your suggestion! For Spyderco, do you have any particular model in mind? I didn't like the Tenacious personally when I held one because of it's larger size but I'm open-minded to some of the other models.

Huh, I haven't heard too much about Kizer. Do you have any suggestions on which models to get me started? Thanks!

Don't get a kizer. They are chinese, you can get good stuff usa made.

Check out the lionsteel TRE. I've never handled one but they seem solid and a size you might like.

Wow, that is an impressive lineup. As others have said, you need some Spydies and ZT's. Years ago I avoided Spyder's just because I didn't like the looks. Now have a bakers dozen, and still buying. Had no idea what I was missing out on.

And ZT's, they are just downright solid quality. They are not all just thick and "overbuilt". They now have a pretty full range from beefy to thin, light gentleman's folders (450/450cf, 770cf). Or something in the middle like the 452cf. Long, slender, pretty, and solid).

I think both of those brands could turn into an addiction just as bad as your Benchmade "problem". [emoji56]

I only have one model of Kizer, the 3452. But I was so impressed with it that I bought two more for kids. Both wanted a new knife, so I gave them the opportunity to work for them. My little boy's knife was mostly a congrats for hitting school honor roll. Told both of them to handle anything in my collection (ZT, BM, Spyderco, Boker, etc), and pick out what they wanted me to order for them. Both picked the Kizer that happened to only be at the house from a passaround. So I bought three of the same model that week. Would also like a Gemni, Intrepid, and some of the newer models. Definite smooth quality.

Throw a Pro-Tech in your collection eventually ;)
I'm a little biased toward them since they are practically located in my backyard (20 miles) and are locally grown!

BTW, very impressive collection.

I see that you are in dire need of fixed blades...

My thoughts exactly, brother! Great collection, Carrossea. But, seriously consider entering the realm of fixed blades!

If you are determined to stick with folders for now, just get a Sebenza. That's my 2 cents worth...

Thanks, everyone, for taking a look and all the suggestions! :D Anyone else who have any recommendations, post below! :p

You need to add a 950 Rift. Of my Benchmade knives, it's my favorite.

Haha, I've been eyeing a Rift for awhile. Thanks for the suggestion!

Bedlams are older model Persian style blades, 4 inches long, almost a pocket sword.

Ah thanks! I have a friend who owns the auto version of the Bedlam. I probably should see if I can get my hands on one.

You need more buck ( especially a 110, and 119 )

Yep, have been eyeing the Buck 110 for a long time! I'll probably pick up one on this forum if I see it floating around. Have never been too keen on buying one at the store for some reason.

Impressive collection! I can see you like slim knives. Maybe it is the time to try out some beefy knives like ZT?

Glad you noticed! Yep, slim knives and gentleman folders are typically my favorite. I used to only like tactical blades, but I got bored of them over time.

I only have one model of Kizer, the 3452.

The ZT 450cf made me drool, lol. Same with the Kizer 3452! Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add those to my wishlist. ;)

This site has some nice stuff....more traditional but I see you have Opinel.

Thanks for the link! I got my Opinel knives when I was traveling around Europe actually! Wish I had had time to visit the Opinel museum in France, but oh well :o
