It's not a good one either.

Jules had been getting serious pain in his chest. We saw the ENT surgeon yesterday, his thyroid was full of cancer and so was the lymph node. BUT the good news is no other lymph nodes were involved.

Home we go, pain is getting worse. He thought is was just a gas pocket. No way jose! Finally I took the bull by the horns and told him either he gets in the car to go to the ER or I was calling 911. He listened and got in the car, we were at the hospital 7 mins later.

He is in some serious pain. EKG showed a tachacarida, blood work showed he probably had a pulmonary embolism. CT scan showed NO blood clot but showed pneumonia and some inflammation below the left lung.

He wasn't brought up to CCU until 6:30 this morning. He's been given anitbiotics, and some heavy duty "make you feel real good" pain medication.

I promised him I would update you all. Thru all of this last night he was so worried about all of you!!! I am going back up now to the hospital with some clean jammies for him and his meds that the hopsital doesn't carry.

Keep the prayers going, we need them now more than ever! We are both so touched by all the wonderful thoughts and cards and calls from everyone. You are a support group to me and Jules more than you'll ever know! And for that I am truly grateful.

I will post an update tonight when I get home on his status.

Janie

PS: Anyone who is on any other forum that they know Jules is, could you please post this update for me? Much appreicated. I will get to them tonight too.

Thanks for the update.

May God be with you both and Grant you the strength to get through these times.

Hoping for better times ahead for you both.

Thoughts and Prayers to both of you, from 555

Give him our best! Prayers sent that he'll knock this out in no time.

Sorry to hear but we're still thinking of him. Good for you to for taking care of the situation. pneumonia is pretty common after surgery.

Ask about seeing a respitory therapist as soon as he's able. Many doctors don't really have time to follow up after surgery. A therapist will stop by a couple of times a day, give him some breathing exercises to do and monitor that more closely.

Starting breathing exercises can cut weeks off recovery time. (IMO, I ain't a doctor)

Just take care of Jules.

That's all that matters.

We're all pulling for him and for you. It will get better.

Prayers on Sunday.

I am a respiratory therapist by profession, and yes atelectasis (collapse of lung units, seen on the chest x-ray as either pneumonia or atelectasis) are a common surgery complication, since the pain causes one to hypoventilate, thus not inflating all of the lung areas.

Ask your doctor to prescribe an Incentive Spirometer for your husband. Have a nurse or a respiratory therapist (preferably the latter!) instruct you on how to do it properly.

Thank you for the update, and so sorry for the bad news. Please tell him that we are all keeping him in our prayers and hoping for the best.

Janie, I don't know you, but I wish your man well. If your hospital is anything like mine, it's full of angels who will take good care of him. I know how stubborn we men can be about going, though. I went five times in about four months this summer. The first time I sat here in denial until I started going into shock and my wife had to call the ambulance to haul me to the ER. The last time I packed a little bag because I knew I was out of options and I needed surgery. I've been back home nearly a month now, and just this week I've begun to feel more clear headed and able to get back to driving around town. By the way, a good ENT surgeon worked on me, too. Good luck to you both.

Tell Jules all of us here and the Devilz are pulling for him :D

be strong
