Update: Thoughts on DT SS Damascus Blades; and Some Anodizing Work.

Thanks guys, I'm no longer using the pocket sheath, and my timascus insert is fine. My blade is getting pretty worn in and looking good! Different types of wear show up. Light shimmery scuffs, bright spots, dark scratches, fading in certain spots. It definitely wears really well! In most lighting, it still looks brand new, but you can see the wear here under regular indoor lighting. Will put up a few more photos tomorrow. New edge on this thing is working like a champion.

Love this thread. I love seeing user Damascus and Graphic Sebenzas.

Glad you've enjoyed it my friend. I've got another DT in the works, Large this time around. Will use it as much as I use my daily carry small shown in this thread!

Wow James, that's a beautiful collection of Damascus Sebenzas!

Guys, I'd go ahead and oil your DT blades even if you think you don't need to. Although the SS Damascus is resistant to corrosion, it is not impervious.

I noticed today after using mine that the blade has accumulated a few very very tiny brown spots, near the base where the scales meet the blade. I used some very fine polish and an artist's triangular cotton swab to remove them as much as possible but there are two marks that have been reduced greatly but are most likely permanent.

I can only assume that this happened due to not drying off the blade well enough after cleaning, then storing the knife in it's slip pouch too long. The leather must've trapped the moisture in.

In any case, the marks are very hard to find unless you're looking and this knife is a user. It's got a few bright spots already and I have cut some pretty tough stuff with it so I'm not worried :D

Storing blades in a leather sheath is bad for any blade, especially if they were wet (even a little) when you put it in.

That really sucks man. Hopefully it will eventually rub out eventually. :(

They rubbed out for the most part, and you are right about storing the knife wet. When I said "stored too long" I meant in my pocket, I always remove the knife from the sheath while not carrying it. I actually don't use the sheath at all anymore, too much trouble drawing the knife, putting the sheath away, opening it, using it, then getting the pouch out again.

I'd like to second everything Zeta has said. I have a Seb in the DT Damascus too, and this stuff is incredible.

If they made an insingo with this stuff, you could probably cut through Gluons with it.

It is incredible!

The use continues, and as such, there are new marks. This is the one knife I will absolutely never let go of.

Really enjoying your updates. Hoping to own a Damascus blade myself one day, and would want to use it as well.

Thank you Cody. This is also the same edge that I've been running on this knife since I posted this thread. I'd say its at 95%, still popping hairs effortlessly, heel to tip.

Thanks for this review. I've been kicking around getting a DT damascus for Christmas and this post addressed all of my concerns. What a beautiful blade.

I carry my Damascus Sebenza every day like you. It's such a great user and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Good to see that those damascus blades are being used and can indeed be a good choice for edc!

Im hoping to lay my hands on a carbon fiber inlay with DT ladder. That would look killer!

I was surprised to see this thread brought back. I'm coming up on my next sharpening today or tomorrow, and I'd be happy to update the thread for those interested?

Please do. I'll be opening my Damascus 21 next Friday, and will be posting my thoughts after I've used it for a bit. I'd be interested to hear your updated thoughts.

I just sharpened mine last night. Or more so stropped it back into perfection. The blade is razor sharp. It's a bit crazy. I screwed up the tip a bit by rolling it so I may sharpen it again. I haven't decided yet. But it does have a mirror finish!

Good stuff. I've had about 3 hours of sleep since my last post here, I'll sharpen up and update soon.

Not the best pic since all I have is my phone but I am fairly impressed by my cheap setup. Spyderco if bench stone and some stropping. Love this blade so much.
