Upgrade from the Mora 2000

Good thinking. How many cheap knives will you buy in the interim when you could have put that money aside and gotten the one you really want?

I definitely learned that lesson a long while back! It sucks having twenty cheap, useless blades sitting around. A few good ones are much preferred. Life's too short to own cheap garbage.

Fieldtestornothing: I'd really love a review!! Lots of pics if it's doable. I haven't seen many 'user' pics of those blades.

Stick'em: I really like that Helle, too. They have so many pretty ones. If I were to get one, it would be between that one, the Storm, Folkekniven or Helle-Eggen. Quite a list to all be from one company! I really do wish they had those blades in plain carbon though, I've sort of sworn of stainless. That's some of the appeal of the Kellums for me.

I've been using my BRKT Nebula for a few days now. absolutely lovin' it! Whittles, slices, scrapes, and pulls kitchen duty extremely well. It doesn't do as well as some of my other knives slicing rope, but that's probably more because I keep a very, very fine, smooth edge on it. I was skeptical of the whole convex/Scandi edge, but so far it's working out terrifically.

I haven't even had it an entire week yet, but....so far so good, and quite possibly worthy of consideration.

The Ahti knives sold at ragweed look like a pretty good deal, but I have no experience with them.

A lot of good suggestions here. Can't go wrong with a Fallkniven. I'll add another vote for a knife by Helle also. Here's my Odel.

I was looking at a few of the Helle knives and the Odel is one that I would like, but was wondering how the grip is when wet. I would think that smooth wood and antler could have a tendency to be slick.

longbow,
I have not found wet hands to be a real problem. The antler is porous and not really slick, and the leather washers between the antler contribute to a fairly good grip. The wood might get a little slick. Every once in a while I soak the whole handle with mineral oil and it keeps it in good shape. A little light rasping could add a lot of texture to a wood handle also. In addition, the shape of the handle on the Odel gives real good in-hand stability imho.
