ups delivery time question

Another thing about UPS. It's a scam. They have 3rd day air,2nd,and overnight. If you don't use that then you have to go ground. and even to the next state over, it can take a week or 2. 3 or more sometimes for long distance ground. FED-X only for high end blades. Or any blade you care about for that matter. Why does BLG And true north use them exclusively?

just not fedex ground. i learned this is an autonomous company after they "lost" a small sebenza.

UPS sucks. Its all about USPS and FedEx. An adjoining state would take a day for USPS.

UPS does suck:thumbdn::thumbdn:...

just had a bad deal from them. My trade guy used em, paid 50 bucks for Sat delivery. Did not make it. I paid 12.00 bucks to FedEx on my end, made it ON TIME!!! He ended up getting his money back from UPS, but it was a hassle.

Not only that.UPS left the f*cking sig confirm, on my front porch (I was not even home)...left a 500+ knife sitting for anyone to take...luckily thay did not.

I neither like nor trust UPS. Every shipment with them seems to be an adventure. I have found items abandoned in odd corners of the yard, sometimes at a random neighbor's home. They are very good at doing point to business, or business to business; but, lousy at home delivery.

n2s

This has been my experience exactly. The drivers I have dealt with seem to always be in such a hurry to complete there route that home delivery is relegated to the individual drivers discretion on how and where he/she delivers the parcel, regardless of any of the customers upgraded shipping options or signature requirements that may exist.

I stopped accepting them and using them altogether unless I am utilizing a business to business transactions in certain situations only. If I can use USPS's services, I will always go that route instead.

My question for you ahgar is:

(1) Did you ever get the tracking number from your trading partner?

(2) And if not, what was the excuse since every package has one?

Wow. Lots of heat, not so much light. A lot of guys have had way more positive experience with UPS and USPS. I have never had a problem with either, in NYC or New Jersey. Everyone's history is different, but to outright insult services that many of us find reliable is only going to call your own judgment into question.

I can understand anyone saying they had problems with UPS or USPs and would rather not use them, but "I HATE USPS" and "UPS is losing their S***", well, all-statements are inherently unimpressive.

"calling my own Judgment into question"? "Inherently unimpresive"? I am NOT giving an "Opinion" Or Judgment, I am talking about Over and over and over again Very BAD experiences. And Extremely Over priced. I just had 2 Bad ones in 4 days. Every one in the past 3 month was horrible, and when I call CS to ask what the problem is they are extremely Rude. So nothing is calling MY judgment into question except for Using them in the First place. RUMBLEBEE and I just traded and they Left a $600 knife just sitting there by his door. for anyone to pick up.A Knife That I paid to be OVERNIGHTED so HE would BE THERE!! Overnight costed me $50 something dollars. it's only 5 hours away and it took 2 extra days and they just leave it there knowing full well that anyone could just take it? A $600 dollar knife!! RUMBLBEE Used FED-X for Mine, it was Here in 18 hours and hey knocked on both doors early on a saturday. AND IT ONLY COST 12 Bucks!! I'm speaking from experiences like these Over and over. And to also be treated like total crap by customer service every time? Thats horrible. If a knife company did that it would be Ok to say you Hate that company even though some people still like their knives. Hummmm, Kinda like Strider, I think I remember the whole"Like my sack" thing. 100s of BF Posters said they Hate Strider and will never buy again and get rid of all their Strider ect.. But they get no heat. But they are the same ones that can say whatever they want like usual. Whatever:rolleyes: USPS is even worse just because they have NO tracking at all. So Yes I do HATE UPS!!! You would to if you had 1 experience like Rumblebee and I did. Much less many Like I did.So again I say I HATE UPS:mad::mad::jerkit::barf::thumbdn:

If he was that close, you should have just used a $16.00 flat rate overnight from USPS and it would have been guaranteed before 3:00 pm the next day :D (tracking and insurance included with overnight within the country) Who pays $50.00 to overnight something 5 hours away anyway? Now that's just a waste of money

USPS is worse because they have no tracking? Read what batosai117 just wrote: Express Mail is cheaper, faster, does have tracking, and is more secure than what you describe. Batosai117 and I just traded knives between NJ and TX by USPS Priority Mail and both got them in 2 days.

Frankly, going by your vituperation here, if that's how you speak to people on the phone, I wouldn't be surprised to find them a bit testy. Or maybe they weren't, maybe they just refused to thank you for cursing and insulting them.

Credibility zero, brother.

UPS and USPS both have their issues.

USPS's tracking is horrid. I usually have my package before the website even acknowledges that it's been shipped. On the other hand, Priority is fast, cheap, and they stick my stuff in my mailbox where it belongs (I have a very large mailbox.)

UPS on the other hand has pretty decent tracking. That said, I can always tell when UPS arrives by the loud thump on my porch. In my area at least, it seems they train them to break stuff. I once had a UPS driver stop in the road and hurl a package out the van door, up a 20 foot driveway, and into my storm door. I have had 0 damaged items with USPS, FedEX, or DHL. I've had numerous damaged items arrive from UPS, and their insurance might as well be non-existent.

This is funny...not funny, haha...But, WOW, scary. I guess we all have had our ins and outs with carriers...but, UPS will not get another cent from me. I don't hate them, they're just not going to make my Christmas list this year! :D :thumbdn:

What are you talking about? They have NO Tracking. They say it left som where, and the say it arrived after you have it, You call that tracking? FED_X Tracks it from stop to
stop. "Zero Cedibility"? What are you talking about? Other posters are saying the same exact thing I am. Yes of course you get Lucky like from TX to NJ in a weekend. But wait till they Lose SEB. and have nothing to say to you except, "Sir we can't find your package, call back in 2 weeks" I have Zero credibility, What exactly is that supposed to mean in this whole UPS/USPS discussion? Strange, seems like you might be bias. I relay my experience with both, Just like everyone else but I have "Zero Credibility" That makes a lot of sense. "Brother" Lol

no tracking with usps? what the heck have i been paying for?

You've been paying to see it was received by the USPS from your shipper and Paying to see that it is in your hand after it was delivered. They can't tell you it's in say, "Dallas TX, Next destination, San Antonio", They can't say "Expected delivery date 11/30". They can't tell you if there is a delay or a accident or anything, except that you have it after you have it. if there is a delay you can't do anything for a long long time.

Now that's just a waste of money

Because I won't Use USPS anymore since they lost 3 knives in 2 months and it took over a year to resolve and I only got half of what I insured it for. And spending 50 bucks to make sure( Or attempt to Make sure, since they suck) My Man gets His Knife when he's going to be Home On a Saturday, $50 Bucks for Overnight for a $600 knife is Hardly a Waste of money. It's like when TrueNorthknives FED-Xs your Seb or Strider overnight or BLG. When it's something of High Value and they want/need it to be there by a certain time, For whatever reason, thats what they get. If I was trading 40 dollar Bucks and Kershaws and FRN Spydercos out of pure boardum, Yeah I guess I'd just ship USPS or UPS ground and wait 2 weeks and pay $5 bucks.

International shipping must be different. When I get something shipped to me by USPS Global Express, I am able to follow the route from city to city. I also know when it has left the US, when it is in Canadian Customs, when it arrives in my city and when it is on the truck for delivery to my house.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet (and yes the tracking number would be helpful) but unless it has changed very recently UPS uses a zone system when shipping domestically. The rule of thumb for typical shipping times is one zone per day. In fact if you ARE one zone away and you pay extra to ship a package 2nd Day Air it is likely that your package will take longer to arrive. They actually have to put your package on a plane and fly it somewhere even if it is only going say 30 miles. Strange, huh? I used to run a shipping and receiving dept that sent out 200+ packages per day and we used UPS. Their reliablility percentage is in the very high 90's. I've also filed a claim for about $400 when a TV I had sent to me (appropriately insured for a nominal fee) was damaged. After a reasonable investigation they cut me a check. They used to be as good as it gets. I have not been in the shipping business in a number of years though and maybe things have changed. Anyway, regardless of the shipper you use, it is highly probable that you will receive your parcel. Unless, of course, there are shinnanigans on the other end of the transaction. Hope this info is helpful. -DT

USPS frustrates me because when I send out payment it doesn't show up as received until two or three days after it was signed for. Often I receive my knife before the payment comes up as delivered. I have my sheaths made in Arkansas, and it takes eight to nine days to get there when sent Priority. Two or three days on the return trip. It has been explained to me that my Post Office is so far out of the way that there is no guaranty for delivery dates, no matter the shipment type. I also get the local church’s mail at least twice a week in my P.O Box. I shudder to think what mail of mine the church gets. Also, having a Post Office that is only open for seven and a half hours a day, five days a week is not very convenient.

UPS routinely delivers me my neighbor’s packages. I get the medication they order for their dog every month. Sometimes they leave packages at the end of the easement I share with another house. Pretty crappy, as I live off the highway. Sometimes they get covered in snow, and we don't even know a package has come. Most of the woodworking supplies I used to order were delivered UPS, and the boxes always arrived dented and torn. Many times the contents were damaged despite being well packaged. The delivery person also liked to sign my name to save herself a return trip when I wasn’t home. Now, I won’t use them under any circumstances.

FedEx has been great, except for their freight. That is contracted out. Nothing like getting a new Laguna bandsaw that has been shipped from California to Montana while laying on it’s face. Other than that, I have nothing but glowing reviews for them. They always ship to me promptly, and even leave it on my porch. I have never received a damaged package from them that was shipped by air. I drive forty miles round trip to get to a shipping station, but it well worth it in my mind.

Dealing with knives purchased from people I don’t know, I go with USPS Priority insured with deliver confirmation due to the federal fraud thing. (I think I am right about that?) Otherwise, FEDEX air all the way.

*Edit-Sorry I went off topic. As others have said, he should have the tracking number for you. Smells a little hinky to me, solely based on the fact that he doesn't have it.

This is true enough.

I must admit when you first mentioned USPS had no tracking it took me aback and I was scratching my head too. However, the above post is clear and well stated.

I suppose unfortunately we are all pretty much relegated to the big three whatever the case if you want to ship your goods. Its either USPS, UPS, or FedEx. For my money its USPS.

All my UPS stuff seem to take about 10-14 days to get to me.

However, if he shipped UPS he should have the tracking number on the UPS shipping form.

You guys don't know what your talking about, I've had great luck with both UPS and USPS. UPS takes longer but they have cool looking brown trucks and uniforms. USPS is faster and cheaper so their still great.

You guys don't know what your talking about, I've had terrible luck with both UPS and USPS. UPS takes longer but they have ugly trucks and uniforms. USPS is faster and cheaper but they still suck.

Seriously, I've had fairly good luck with both but have heard of problems and had minor ones myself but everything has gotten here.

The quality of all carriers varies from place to place. Where I live now, USPS is great, UPS mediocre - reliable but slow, and Fed-X is a pack of thieves - my signature does NOT look like a tracing of a saw blade. Last area I was in, all three were excellent. Place before that Fed-X was the only reliable one. Aside from color there was precious little difference between a mailbox and a trash can and UPS left packages sitting at the end of the driveway.

But to get back to the OP's dilemma, I agree with those who have said that if it was shipped UPS the sender has to have been given a tracking number.

As someone in the transportation industry, I'd like to offer this.
Shipping volumes, no matter if it's mail, packages or freight, are at drastically low levels. Everyone including the USPS is working with a smaller workforce and are cutting costs any way possible and are working with the least amount of people they can. In most cases the workforce doesn't meet the current demand. They really have no choice right now. Almost every company in any kind of ground transportation business, is losing money and burning thru cash reserves in this recession.
Please be patient with your shipping company. They are doing what they all have to do to survive this economy.
