So there I am at the UPS store getting ready to send 3 knives out to a buddy of mine, and I asked the clerk to box them up for me so they wouldn't get damaged. He took one look at these ( A Microtech folder, a Coldsteel Arc Angel, and a Nemesis Hellion neck knife) and picked up the phone to call his superiors. So like a friggin jacka$$ I sat there and listened to him tell me that UPS won't ship weapons. I said I don't want to ship weapons, I want to ship 3 pocket knives. He then told me if they can be used as weapons he won't ship them. So I actually looked at him, dazed, and amazed. He was this stupid, "I think I am stoping terrorism" ideot. I told him he was full of $h1t in front of a full store of people, which made me feel a whole lot better, and went down the road to Fed Ex, who readily boxed them up for me and shipped them. I would have used USPS, but I am at the end of my rope with them. LOL Just wanted to share that with you guys.

You should have said, very calmly,

Yes, I suppose it's true they can be used as weapons, as can that phone when I rip it out of your hand and beat you to death with it.

You should of asked him if he thought it was smart not doing what a guy with 3 weapons was asking him to do.

Well I actually though it would have been funny to say "That cash register in front of you is a weapon if I pick it up and crush your scull with it", but I didn't want to instigate this guy. He is not the type that would have stepped outside to let me wreck him. He would have picked up the phone again and call the police to come and get me, and cry like a little girl that I threatened him.

I'm sure he would've shipped a baseball bat without a problem though. In many peoples' minds, knives are automatically weapons. Don't even try to question their fragile grasp on reality.

I like what you did but sadly it probably didn't change his attitude.

True, but I could have also told him that I don't need a knife as a weapon, because I can put a dime size hole in his fat heat at 500 meters with my M-4. I hate that I fight to protect the freedom of people like him to be able to believe crap like that.

I'd be tempted to say things like that as well. You can't though. I agree that he sounds like the type to call the police over it and you could be charged with making a threat.

You should have told that idiot that you are weapon, and that the US government had no problem shipping you around.:D.

You should have alerted him that many, many, many knife retailers in fact use UPS.

What an idiot.

Dude that is the best I have heard yet. I guess that is why you get paid the big bucks. LOL Thanks for making me smile :D

USAFSP: "Excuse me, can you box these up so they wont get damaged?"
UPS guy: "Ahh! um, uhhh... we don't ship deadly evil edged weapons"
USAFSP: "Oh, ok then, well can you box this up for me?"

UPS guy: *dies from heart attack*

LMFAO  :D That is pretty good. I should probably go in next week with a pigs tongue and ask him to ship it for me with a crazy look in my eyes. When he asks me where I got the tongue, I'll just tell him to mind his own buisness. LOL

USAFSP - stop me if you've heard this one before...

You need a fellow government employee to do something for you. They're not sure what the procedure to follow is and they don't feel comfortable with making a decision. They call their supervisor. The supe doesn't know what the hell is going on either and rather than cause any problems with a bad decision, opts not to help. Things become more painful than they need to be, there's the normal wailing and gnashing of teeth, the plan changes and it gets done eventually if not efficiently.

I deal with this on a daily basis. It's been like this on every post that I've been to. I would be surprised if things were very different on your end. You work around it and move on - as you did.

I'm guessing that the poor guy wasn't sure what to do, his supe wasn't either, and they took the safe (albeit wrong) path. It happens. He probably wasn't out to make a political statement or change the world; he simply misunderstood the policies, so did his supervisor, and they inconvenienced you in the process.

I wasn't there and I don't know exactly what was said so it's a bit presumptious of me to be speculating about it. Someone's got to be the devil's advocate. :)

UPS does ship 'weapons' and 'ammunition'. They even have a contract with Glock. That guy just might as well open his mouth and insert foot.:foot:

UPS dosen't ship "weapons" specifically firearms, from or to non-licenced dealers, manufactuers, or collecters.

I find this extremely amusing because according to UPS, my new Boker is currently at the distribution hub in Buffalo.

I can't wait till monday, (F*&^ing weekend)

Edited to add

It's coming from the Knifecenter, which isn't far from you USAFSP.

I was under the impression that the US was a whole lot betterabout carrying a pocket knife then the UK.
Royal mail just give you advice on how to best package knives up before posting them :) (I shipped about 30 kitchen knife blades yesterday)

Ha ha ha ha roflol.

Seriously tho, Satori took the words out of my mouth.

I just got my new "japanese dagger" which was shipped using the "brown guys" and the shipper's address on the box said "eKnifeworks", no problem. I don't think the carrier thought a company named like that sells teddy bears....

That guy in the front desk is a jerk. Next time, ask to talk to management yourself.

I used UPS all the time. Always pack a knife yourself. Don't type the word in the contents section as knife type in "hand tool". Insurance factor, the more value there is on a "hand tool" the more they are going to want to see that and will open your box to check it out. The clerk tried to talk me down on the 500.00 insurance which I did not do, she had no problem sending the 150.00 knife. I was upfront and told her what they were. I went to FedEx, no problem and no questions asked and even cheaper. I came home and called UPS asking about this situation, they told me there should not have been a problem with it. I thought I'd try and forgive them sending a knife off and what did the same clerk do? Cut open the box that I taped and made secure to check it out...back to FedEx.

I have always relied on USPS priority. So far, the worst experience was a couple of days delay. Only to this remote address specifically. Never lost a package, however, expesive stuff is registered and insured.
