"upscale" or "upgraded" Rat 1? Will we ever see more scale and steel options?

I like the RAT's just fine like they are but would also be interested in new variations.
I just bought a second Rat II. Here is my first when it was new.
I plan on getting at least one Model 1 and some more Model 2's.
Just don't stop making these whatever you do.:)
I love my Model-II so much, I asked for all the other colors for Christmas. I'd love to see whatever "upgrades" they make on the Model-I, available on the Model-II.

Even though they're lightweight now, I'd like to see skelontized liners and optional backspacers.

Not sure where this is from originally, found it randomly online, but it looks like a custom S30v blade for the RAT 1. S30v or S35v would be a great steel for it, along with G10 scales.

edit: Here's another one, looks like the scales are carbon fiber. There, corrected links, oops.

sorry not much photo, currently away from home for a while and that's the photos i could find on my phone.

thanks! I happen to like Spyderco so much and hoping they would take on RAT1 as a collab run.

A spear point, or a drop point that has more of a spear shape. Or Scandinavian ground rat 1 or both. Maybe a lock back rat 1

I would love to see OKC keep the "inexpensive but not cheap" current model in AUS8 available, but also make the same model but with higher end steel options: S30V, 154CM, etc. At least one higher grade steel option. I wouldn't want to give up the option to purchase new AUS8 Rat 1's, though.

Personally, not a big fan of flippers or assisted opening, so those would be deal breakers for me.

We do have G10 handles on the assisted openers, and we occasionally kick around the idea of putting G10 on others as well. We can't really comment on whether anything like that is actually planned right now, but if you don't mind, we'll take this opportunity to learn more about your thoughts on the idea.

People love the RAT1 because it's inexpensive but not cheap. A knife you can take with you anywhere because you're not afraid of losing it, since replacements are readily available and inexpensive. Any of the design suggestions you're bringing up would raise the price, so where would you guys draw the line? We wouldn't raise the price on something like this more than we had to, but it's always a concern when upgrading a popular design and we'd love to hear your thoughts.

I just got my first Rat 1. Orange scales from KW.
It took a while to be convinced a <$30 knife was worth it.
It is.

Although the first thing my wife said when she picked it up was the scales were to slick.
I agree.

My choice would be micarta/g-10 scales w/ more color choices for an upgrade.
Go crazy with flames or skulls or flags!
Maybe a more aggressive pattern using the current material?
Maybe better steel.
I can easily see twice the current price for some upgrades.

my 2cents

It seems there is a great general consensus: leave the original Rat 1 but offer a G10 model with skeletonized liners and 154cm, S30v, or CTS-XHP. Let's get it done!

Rat 1 is my favorite knife. Upgraded steel would be great. I'd pay $80 to $100 for a sprint run or an exclusive.

Below is a rat 1 with some ebay bought wooden scales... my edc knife

I'm content with the way the RAT 1 is... but a sprint run wouldn't hurt my feelings at all :)
