Urban Defense League

Well after doing lots of reading it looks like a CCW is out of the question here in CA. :( Regardless I'll still practice, practice, practice. :D

Excellent advice guys. I think I prefer the LMS over the AD. For now I have my wife's SS4. ;)

Now if that SFNO would come along. :D

Totally off topic: What is the deal with S&W these days? I didn't even look their way after the Clinton sellout in the late 90's, but I haven't really kept up with what the company is doing now. Was it sold? I have a 686 that is a great revolver, but I don't know much about the semi-autos.

Guyon

I am not sure of the status of S&W currently - but I think they are no longer in the hands of that leftist brit company....

I too lost track of them after the evil actions of the past - but the three I have - all are very well made and make me look great when I am at the range.

And to others - its not just the practice that makes perfect - its perfect practice that helps one to be better - And what you practice is what you will do when the moment of truth comes...

I cant believe all the tite ass rules im reading about!!! 1 shot persecond, no close range, no draw and fire, no no no no no no no no!!! Insane!!! I take my class III machine guns, full auto shotguns, 50's, rapid fire drills etc etc etc~ but then again, i live in a free state!!!! GO DUCKS!!!!!! BY THE WAY... NICE BUNCH OF USERS!!!!!!!!WHOO AH!!!!!!

at least in socal, nearly all the public outdoor shooting areas have been closed. there are a few outdoor ranges, but hold to the same rules as shooting indoors.

i remember as a kid going up to santa clarita to an area inside a canyon and shooting away. as long as the backdrop was safe, there were no standards regarding rapid fire, ammo, weapon type, etc.

my experience with s&w has been mixed. i carry a backup 2 inch airweight, and its great. most of our officers carry the same for a backup, and i have only seen one problem with a cylinder release.

but a close friend bough a thunder ranch earlier this year. it had to be sent back twice before they got it right. there was a gap between the bbl and the frame, pitting inside the bbl, and a b/o ft sight. he rightfully expected the fit/finish to be superb, and it was average. now its great, but quite a headache initially.

the autos dont fit my hands properly and are awkward for me to shoot. i dont pick up the sight picture right away, might just be the profile of the slide. but from those i know that own them, they are fine pistols.

I had my FFL in the late 80's and 90's. Soon after S&W realized they had really messed up(clinton sellout) they really started kissing ass. They gave $50 rebate's on all gun's that summer and bent over backwards to get the customers back.

The late 90's model 41 on the left(in pic below) had a small scratch and a small chip in the grip. Called them and sent it back, they reblued the gun and put new grips on and sent me a set of extra laminated grips:eek:

My 686 Clasic Hunter is the most accurate revolver I have ever shot, as most all there(older) revolvers are great. But...
In all my years selling and shooting all the major brand auto's I like the S&W's the least(JMHO). Never had a customer complain about Sig's, Glock or HK's... that's also the three I have used for years without one malfunction. I like the Sig's the best... great triggers, accurate, ergonomicly perfect, etc...

Now the S&W model 41 Auto's below are the exception, only a rimfire but the sweetest auto you will ever shoot. I may be the only one in the room that shoots rimfire though. I know there off topic but must praise the 41 ever chance I get.

Adding to Mark's comments:

S&W was purchased from the British holding company by an American firm that makes "safety locks" for firearms, called Safe-T-Hammer. That is the reason all the new wheelguns have the so-called "Hillary Hole".

There has been no explicit disavowal of the Clinton HUD agreement that caused the stink in the first place, but lots of implicit nudges and winks that it has died.

The traditionalists are bemoaning the new innovations of MIM lockwork and the new two-piece barrels as poorly engineered cost-cutting steps. Sort of the way they squealed 25 years ago when they stopped the whole Pinned and Recessed thing.

Say what you will about integral locks, there have been a few instances where they inadvertently locked up the revolver. In my opinion, any number larger than zero is unacceptable. I will therefore never own one.

Besides, the older models are much nicer to shoot:

+1 on the integral locks:barf: I havn't bought a newer Smith in so long I had forgot about them adding those. Like you said Rick, the old one's are much better, didn't even need to get the trigger worked on the older ones

Sweet performance center you have there:thumbup: Which is that? Looks kinda like a 5" 45 ACP a friend had, but I assume it's a .357

Tyrkon, nice set there. I keep a Glock model 22c handy at night. Some times I add a Bushmaster carbine or Bushmaster Pistol with a 40 round mag handy, or my Winchester Defender shotgun handy as well. I also like to keep something sharp and pointy handy as well. Too bad you live in the less freedom loving CA. I have let my CC permit expire, and need to renew it so I can carry around the mean streets again.

If you ever have to use any of those sharp pointy Busse home defense items, you better have a video camera set up so we can watch. We all love your video's.

you are definitely not the only one to shoot rimfires around here. I have two AR-15's, 2 .357 revolvers. 2 .30 carbine's, Glock .40, and a Ruger 10-22 and a Ruger MKI. Every time my family and I go out to shoot, we bring tons of guns and ammo, the .22's get the most grins. Just something fun about blazing through a 550 round box of ammo without worrying about how much it costs. I wish S&W would bring the model 41 back. But I will always love Ruger .22 pistols and rifles.

Ken,

You are correct. That is a 1st generation 627PC. I use it for ICORE action shooting, when I get a chance to visit the range. It makes running the Texas Star a bit more fun.

I like N-frame .357s.

The 4" on the right is for IDPA (8-shooters not allowed).

The two 5-screws are from the early 50s. Those are honest to goodness cokes on the one. I could sell the grips today for what I paid for the whole package 15 years ago.

The nickel 27-2 was my carry gun in South Carolina. Sweat, donchano?

Rick

As far as the EDC blade does anyone EDC a Mean Street? I like the finger guard on those.

Bless your heart, Tyrkon - you're trying to get your thread back on topic... aren't you?! :D

And I don't EDC a Mean Street, I use a different maker's folder... similar size and shape, though, and I love it!

:p

Well actually I like where it has drifted but am afraid that it will be moved if there isn't mention of Busse knives in it from time to time.

Sorry about my part in the high-jack........
I want a Busse
I want a Busse
I want a Busse (repeated with eyes closed and tapping my heels together).
There, that makes up for the lack in my previous two.
Also, Did you strip your AK and FatBM yourself, or get them from some one else that way?

here, this should cover us for a few more pages:

We're good. Soooooo... I guess I need to look into some mods for me G-21. And off to the CA legal list to see what can be had in the way of a shotgun. For starters.

Morimotom: I too remember going to a few outdoor ranges. Nothing more than a canyon. We could go crazy, fire as fast as we wanted, etc... Are those all gone? How's a private citizen supposed to practice their Matrix skills?

For Glock mods I recommend new sights and some trigger stuff. I've used Heinie Straight 8 sights for years, but recently switched to Warren Tactical 2 dot. The relieved rear sight is a huge improvement. For the trigger, the Lone Wolf 3.5lb connector and Ultimate Trigger Stop are amazing. Many other modifications are possible, but the improvements are, in practice, minimal compared to the 2 I mentioned.

aside from night sites, i wouldn't recommend any after market mods. that gun is pretty great right out of the box.

next time we get together, if you like, i can take it apart and check the springs and pins.
