Any news regarding the Urban? Will it be shown at SHOT? Have there be any photos or dimensions released? Thanks.

There's a thread or five on the company forum with pics of a custom one-off model with a damascus blade. I just tried locating one of those threads, but darned if I can find them now.

All I've read about it is that it's a sized-down UKPK with a 2.5" blade, and will be available eventually with a number of blade shapes.

I am looking forward to this one as well. I bought my first UKPK on a whim, and have been completely astounded as to how much I use and carry it. The lack of a real lock has been, surprisingly, almost a non-issue. I think I've spent too much time trying to keep up the latest and greatest in uber-strength locking mechanisms that I forgot the simple elegance of a good slip joint. Though that is probably more a reflection of my personal usage patterns than a slight to folders with a good strong lock....I just don't miss them as much as I thought I would.

The design just lends itself well to being tossed into a pair of dress slacks. It's very light and so long as you don't pretend to be too "tactical" using it, the grip and choil helps ensure it's not likely to close up on your fingers. There was only one time when I was struggling with a particularly difficult bit of plastic that I twisted the handle and saw the lock begin to break over...gave me pause and I realized I was no longer employing the right tool for the job. Aside from that, mundane everyday slicing chores are dispatched with ease using the UKPK, and I hope the Urban will be just as nice.

By the way, I just spotted the Foliage Green G-10 version of the UKPK pop-up for sale here in the States today. Hope to have mine this week! :D

The UKPK will be available in Foliage green and orange for '08. We'll have samples at "SHOT, but they are in production now.

The Urban is smallder (2.5"). I will have samples at SHOT of a "leaf" and a "wharncliffe" in orange G-10. Production later this year.

Our 5th "Slipit" is a new "ball"-joint folder by Bob Terzuola. It's a concept model that we're shoing at SHOT. Very nice.

More versions of our CC-OHO-NLF's (Clip-carry, one-hand-open, non-locking- folders), dubbed by one of the Brits as "Slipits".

1st - UK Pen Knife "notch-joint"
2nd - T-Mag (Ralph Turnbull design)
3rd - Urban (various blade shapes and handle materials and colors planned)
4th - "Wings 70" byrd. a 2 bladed notch-joint (proto at SHOT)

Hi Sal, is this "ball-joint" by any chance like a BB lock but not having the ball extend so far?

Thank you, Sal. My prediction--- the "Urban" will pull a Huge demand in the knife industry.

Hi Lycosa,

I guess i'm not that brand loyal. Any brand as long as it is well made:cool:. I think Sal is killing us with al these fine designs coming out:D.

yeah the Urban will be perfect for surbUrban carry....the size of the UKPK/Caly3's blade can be somewhat alarming if opened in let's say, a Starbucks or Border's bookstore lol :D
i think the Urban will be as big a "hit" as the Muleteams

Thanks knife bros! I keep come'n back to Spyderco. Maybe I'll hang around a while. Sal and the Endura started it all.

All paths lead back to the Spyderhole :):D

Amen.

What were you thinking doing things like that in a bookstore brian .

I am quiet fond of wharncliffes.

I don't concider the Yojimbo/ ronin a real wharnie and not well suited for urban edc . Next to that the centofante 4 is a bit to big maybe .

I guess an Urban Wharncliffe is a nice niche in the spydie line. And a bit larger as the Wharcom so thats a plus.

yeah Mat I agree that the Cento4 can be a "little alarming" if opened in the bookstore ... naah I'd never do that, just "for examples" really ...
the Yojimbo is actually a great blade size for EDC but I prefer a shorter handle....less visible clip, etc... the Yojimbo feels great in the hand though...gives instant "peace of mind" while in the pocket

Thanx for the Pix Brian. You always give such good comparison pictures. I really appreciate that Bro .
I thought the Yoji was bigger. I spotted one on a dutch webshop but they ask 150 euro:eek:. I think these smurfbones are hard to find nowadays at a descend price especially the black g10 ones.;)

Explain the build of the knife, please. What is the rear spacer made of? Does the knife "click" into open? I know there is no lock. It's a Beaut! Thanks!
