URGENT ACTION ALERT: NY Knife Law Reform to Gov. Cuomo - Everyone CALL TODAY!

You have to conceal your knife, but not allowed to conceal your gun. So glad I left. Good luck to those still remaining.

You have to conceal your handguns. NYS doesn't have an open carry statute (unless afield while hunting, then your handgun can be exposed). NYC does not allow the carry or ownership of a handgun no matter what anyway. Even though I have my CCW for NYS, it's not recognized by NYC. Only LEO's can carry there.

This is our big chance to stop complaining and get this stupid law fixed! How many people are going to support a veto other than some NYC attorneys and NYPD brass? Our movement, our time. If Kniferights can win in corrupt NY, they can win anywhere! This fight will be a huge turning point in the knife movement if we can win, with similar laws falling in some of the other states (like Virginia and Ohio) that do not have knife law preemption.

Regardless of whether you love or hate Cuomo, call the guy and be polite. BIPARTISAN, HUGE MAJORITIES, CIVIL RIGHTS GROUP SUPPORT. Have your friends call him too, so NYCers can have a merry Christmas.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and just emailed. Will also call in the morning. Thanks to Knife Rights for keeping with the struggle here in NY.

i feel that everyday living in nyc lol.

i really hope he signs it.

NYC is quite literally the only place that I go with any frequency where I just don't carry a knife. Not even a slip-joint. It should go without saying that I do not appreciate that fact.

i am stuck here for now but i am not comfortable living in a city where innocent civilians literally have no right to protect themselves and illegal immigrants are protected by mayor and giving 'municipal ID'

i try not to think about it and stay away from trouble.

Morning thread Bump. Get those calls out and ask your friends via social media to do the same. FYI, I read that Cuomo and De Blasio (aka Warren Wilhelm) are having a falling out with each other, which could mean him signing this bill to poke the NYC mayor.

I don't like in the NY area, so all I can do is wish you guys luck.

Unfortunately I've seen how these reform efforts play out in other examples. Even if Cuomo signs it into law, the police are going to ignore the law, still perform their wrist flick test to see if a knife can be opened, and still arrest individuals for possession of an illegal knife at the same rate they are today. At best there's simply going to be fewer actual prosecutions occurring afterward.

This is great but may not help NYC residents. The local government can pass city restrictions regardless of state law. Ex: see Florida. South Florida cities like Miami and Lauderdale have severe knife restrictions vs the state. As long as state law doesn't have the language for exemption the cities still can do what they wish.

How did we do with the calls today? Also, I was under the impression that if Cuomo does not act either way, this bill is vetoed automatically, not passed.

Bump. Will this go into law if the governor does not act? I thought failure to sign the law means it is automatically vetoed. Keep up the calls and emails anyway though. I guess we will know how this works out in three days.

In NY, if the bill is transmitted to the governor with at least 10 days remaining in the session, then if it isn't signed by the end of 10 days it becomes law. The so-called pocket veto is only in effect if the bill is delivered within 10 days of the end of the session and then he has 30 days to decide what to do and if not signed it is vetoed. It pretty confusing. We are assured that it was transmitted in time. I'd feel better if was transmitted a day earlier, but we had no say in the matter. And, just to be clear, the 10th day is done at Midnight on the 31st.

Thanks for your and everyone's support. If you are reading this and haven't yet called, please do.

Nothing online is showing the reform bill being vetoed or signed by Cuomo. Did we finally correct most of the nonsense in NYC regarding folding knives? If so, congratulations on the major win.
