URGENT ACTION ALERT: Write your Senators NOW!

Wish I could help but cant, im not a US national - UK is in a simular situation, only its a trading standards group that are pushing for a blanket ban on the sale of knives over the Internet. As forewarned here the ebay UK ban was just the begining. I dont know wether I need to buy metal working tools now or fight the system on the knife sales issue but heres my best wishes to you folks on this 4th of July.

I'm not a poster here but really enjoy the forum. I woul like to let you know that I, who am from Alabama, have notified the Senators metioned in this thread and also Senators Sessions and Shelby from here in my home state.

I will continue to encourage all whom I may be able to contact the appropriate Senators in this short time that we have to act.

Thank you all for your efforts.

Sent emails to 3 Senators and 3 Representatives. Did not bother with my other Senator, Schumer. We all know how much he wants to help us. I didn't even want to alert him as he might rally for the Customs grab knowing his gun-grabbing history..

We must all heed the alert posted by the member from the UK. They are already banning internet sales of ALL knives in the UK. :grumpy: We cannot allow that to happen here.

Well I don't know what this will be worth, but I too have sent a letter to each of the Senators. I was born in the US and a ruling on this matter will have a global impact. Its bad enough here without the US following our lead

Dear Senator

I come from Kentucky but currently live in the United Kingdom. I learned with dismay that US Customs intend to reinterpret federal law in a manner which would prohibit the importation of a significant portion of folding knives sold in the US. This new interpretation of a Switchblade, apart from making an incalculable number or people into over-night felons for just carrying a pocket knife, stands to create significant job losses, and business closures.

In the UK they have very much stricter rules on the sale and carrying of knives than they do in the US. You must be over 18 to buy a knife. You cannot carry any locking knife of any length without being able to provide a sufficiently good reason to police should you be stopped. The police have the right to stop and search at will. UK Customs are already confiscating a percentage of single-handed opening knives as they come in. Ebay, eBid and AmazonUK have all ceased selling knives barring cutlery and the UK Trading Standards Organization is now looking to ban the sale of all knives over the internet within the UK.

Just as the compete ban on handguns here made no difference to the rising tide of shootings and gun crime, all the bans and regulations on knives have made no significant difference to knife crime, the public’s perception of safety, or the media’s enthusiasm for battering the government over the latest reported stabbing.

This is the road that the US now seems to be on. There is no reason to believe that this attempt by US Customs to reclassify, as prohibited weapons, what millions of Americans carry as every-day pocket knives, will be any more effective than the stricter laws already in force in the UK.

Please let me urge you to work with the representatives of Knife Rights and the other advocacy organizations who will be contacting you to find an appropriate way to prevent Customs from implementing this change.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Good luck guys!

2 emails sent. Lets stop this unreasonal bill to be passed. I am not turning in my knife collections..

Hey folks.. it only takes couple minis to do the right thing.. so go send or write some letters to your local reps or senators noW!!

I have carried a pocket knife all my life since my father gave me my first one many years ago and I believe it is my right to have a useful tool in my possession. Is there anything we can do from Canada to assist in this? If its happening in the US its only a matter of time for everyone.

Sent to Murray and Voinovich, as well as local CA senators. Takes less than 5 minutes, no self respecting knife owner should skip this. We need all the help we can get.

Contacted both of mine!!! Thanks for the heads up and efforts of all here. We must stick together, for we will certainly hang separtely! Don't remember who said that but it still rings true.

sent out my four.

Aside from knife rights I want to thank you all in the forums for making these warnings possible. If you did not, there would be four less letters out there.

Thank you

Letters sent; one set for me and another set for Mrs. Purple95!

Thanks for the efforts in making this process simple and straight forward.

There is NO reason why every single member of this board should not take the time to contact our representatives.

You're right. I hope everyone does it.

I know from the shooting community that almost everyone talks a good game, but when it comes to writing letters (or writing checks to supporting organizations), most don't follow through. And the folks that don't take action seem to be the loudest complainers when things don't go well.

What is the most effective organization to protect knife rights? I'll join up next payday....

I just mailed both my Senators here in NC.
This is the second time I have mailed them about this as A.G. Russell asked me to mail them a couple of weeks ago....
