I made my Sister's Fiancee's kids a banger sword from 1 inch wide 1/4 thick mild steel, they can hit rocks and stuff all day and i just bend it straight *IF* they are able to bend it hehe.

Page, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! My teacher John has been sparring with blunt steel for YEARS, bokkens and wasters too. He left the SCA way back when when they didn't allow steel on steel. Those are some NICE BLUNTS too!

Page...Those look great.:thumbup:
Lets see some of those at Ashokan next year.:D

Mete, it's all well and good until you got the steel replacements from China...

"Hmmm, I don't remember there being lead in this alloy."

Sam, the SCA has been doing fencing since about 1985 or so, but it is only in the last 15 years that "schlagers" which were the practice blades for Heidelberg saber fighting (Manserfecht) have been allowed, and only in the last 7 or so years that practice rapier blades have been allowed. It has been great to finally be able to fight with toys that actually approximate the look and feel of real weapons. If you are interested I can find out if there is a local practice in your area and put you in touch with them (I would love to have you come to my practice, but I know Syracuse is a 3 hour drive from Yulan). Most groups have enough loaner gear that the only thing you have to have of your own is a cup.

Hmmmmmmm yes Thunder, I was thinking also in terms of the plastic possibly being recalled due to being made of arsenic and cyanide based plastic... or the like.

What's a wee buccaneer supposed to do with a plastic Chinese cutlass? AAARRRRRGGGHHH!!!:p

Put out an AYYYYYYYYYY! :D

It's all fun and games until someone loses and eye THEN IT'S A GAME OF CHASE THE EYEBALL!

and just how do you want the kids to get there patch "use a spoon"

why a spoon brother
cause it will hurt more twit

I bet they HT'd it wrong.:confused::confused::eek:

You laugh, but some crystalline thermoplastics do develop different properties based upon rate of cooling. The polyolefins (which the toy most likely was) are a good example of this. Cool it quickly and they behave more amorphous, cool slowly and they become more crystalline.

That would make a good dive knife!
