User Custom Knives?

I have a Phil Wilson fillet knife that serves me well in the kitchen. Such a thin, flexible blade with a perfect handle. A joy to use.

I use my customs.. but I do not abuse them. Now I do freak out if something happens and sort feel bad afterwords. I've got two currently that I sort of "messed " up. The first one I had to cut some steak with while eating lunch and it sort of stained the Damascus, the other one (eggerling damascus blade) got used breaking down some cardboard boxes so while stroping it to get the edge back I saw that I marked the damascus. I don't know a lot about damascus but I'm assuming to get the perfect look back they will need to be re etched again ? I'd rather use them though then have them sit in the safe.

^ain't nothin wrong with a little 'character'.

I started buying customs in 79, I never bought one without the intendt of using. To date I have used 10% at best. In the old days it was only customs that used primo steel etc. Many of todays production knives use the same steel at a far less cost and many times the the fit and finish is better than customs, JMO. I dont but customs any more as a using blade but as collecter pieces only. Just the opion of a old time knife collector.

Some I made myself. The top one is my EDC.

I'm kind of a nutball. I use an expensive Don Hanson gents folder as my MAIN carry. At first I kept them all mint, but after owning a bunch of them I chose one to get used, which of course reduces the value. I don't whittle pieces of wood and I don't use it to cut branches but I use it everyday to cut wrappers, plastic, pills and other light things. It doesn't look bright and shiny like this anymore. And the ivory is more of a dull color now and the steel is darker is some spots and lighter in others. The backbar and Ivory is all scratched up.

The reason I use Don Hanson knives: They work better for me then any tactical I have ever carried. They are thin and easy to hide. The edges are always WAY sharper then the blades made from alot of big time tactical makers. And his steel holds that edge longer in my opinion then the others. Another very noteworthy thing about this is after alot of carry and use, the blade doesn't move even a hair when you try to check for blade play. Every other larger nice tactical knife I have carried required tightening with an Allen wrench or screw driver every few days or more. This knife is very reliable despite its somewhat delicate appearance.

I also carry this one by Gerry Mcginnis once in a while, but did more frequently in the past. It is also a great knife. The edge is good but not as sharp as Dons, and doesn't seem to last as long either. Its still a well made knife.

Over the winter I used the HELL out of this Karl Anderson hunter. I beat the crap out of it and basically cut down a tree with this little thing. It worked great. I need to get it tuned up a little now :)
