Im gona pull the trigger on a pm2 and manix 2lw in the near future. While researching all these different spyderco's ive noticed in most threads where ppl post pics they always lay them all out in nice pretty designs on a table or in some sort of fancy photo op and for the most part the knives look like they never get used....does anyone actually use thier spyderco's? I mean USE them...pls someone post pics of a beat up used knife. Scratches, chips, dings, anything other than a brand new shiny knife.

I mainly use mine outdoors when I'm not carrying my phone/camera so I don't typically take pics but I made some exceptions.

It doesn't look that beat up but it's been a user for nearly 8 years now (My first Spyderco was identical and purchased about 2 years earlier, but sadly was lost on a job site...had this identical replacement in my pocket before the end of the week)...it shrugged off a 275 foot fall and is no worse for wear, and if I gave it to you you'd be hard pressed to find the impact mark left by the gravel. FRN is some tough s**t. I'm sure some will have pictures of more beat up Spydercos but this one has seen it's fair share of work. All of my Spydies are users, but my current philosophy is that with a larger collection it will take longer for each knife to get worn and I'll have more options regarding which model will be the most useful to me on any given day...that and I like trying out new steels/geometries/handles/locks/etc. Oh, and welcome to the forum/addiction.

I find it amusing that folks who treat their knives like crap like to imply that those who take care of theirs don't really use them. Makes me wonder whether they apply the same logic to cars, motorcycles, guns, and houses.

Totally agree. Nothing wrong with taking care of your 'stuff'. I like tools, knives, guitars etc. with good honest use but not abuse.

Great pics guys! Is indeed good to see some Spyderco's in action photo's. I for one also like to see a knife with wear. Reality ain't prestine and pretty.

Not at all, besides thats kind of a hypocritical statement...so just because someone has scratches on the blade or some sign of actual "USE' that means they treat thier knives like crap??? Besides the photos im talking about where ppl put all thier knives out all pretty like, they usually mention their "user" knife which usually isn't in the photo but also leads u to assume they dont use the ones pictured..I just wanted to see some pics of spydies actually and obviously used....not something u just open mail with....then oil and put away cause that was the days work for the knife. Thanks for the photos for those that did post. When I get mine they will get used!!!

That was directed towards deacons post btw. Id also like to add that im not trying to bash those collections im talking abouta id love to have 10 para 2 or every spyderco they make. I just wanted to see some real users.

Great point, I've also wondered about this. I use my Spyderco knives and when I have taken pictures, it is usually when they are new and not full of dirt, glue, plaster dust, etc.

Which makes for beautiful photos. I usually take pics of mine while I'm using them and they are dirty and messy, which makes for a different kind of beautiful photos. Like most folks I enjoy looking at both kinds of pics. Not really a wrong way here.

Eta: op, I get what your asking and I'm glad you asked because I love seeing those shots too. Maybe there was a more tactful way of phrasing that would not illicit negative reaction. This is the spyderco forum, so to ask if anyone ever uses their knives is rhetorical and might be insulting to some.

Oops, and here's a pic of a ti military cleaning some fish. :)

My Delica circa 1997ish. Took a few deer apart with it, and untold other tasks. Wouldn't say I abused it at all, just used it. Still probably the sharpest knife (potentially) I own. very sharp, with a fine point (I think the newer models with the thick point is a mistake). this is still my go-to knife for splinter removal, and bathroom surgery. If my wife or I had to remove a bullet or perform a tracheotomy one each other, this is gonna be the knife (after sterilization).

Knives like that are why I like threads like this! That's a beauty!

Nice pics guys, being a fisherman myself I especially like that bloody fish pic. I agree about the delica tip, thats the one turn off for me on that knife, although ill still probably get one!

That tip on the newer delicas is super easy to modify! I do it on all my salt knives and it only takes a few minutes. Here's a couple of salts I did last month. Nothing to it.

Thanks! The beauty of that knife is function, and Sal is a guru in that department. I hated the knife (first spydie) when I got it. I thought "what a POS" for the money. Even put up a thread here about it. I was toting a Buck-Mayo 172 then, and a Sebbie, and after getting this knife, I just tossed the Delica in my day pack for hunting. I don't have a Sebbie anymore, or the Buck. Still have that Delica though. It just cuts and cuts. The only knife that is a better cutter are the Opinels (sorry Sal). But still, for sheer dependability, and sharpness, that Delica is the bomb, and I will never sell it or get rid of it. If I had to get on the first Terran spaceship to the unknown, with limited gear, I would take that Delica, an Endura in VG-10, my Victorinox Alox Soldier, and a Sharpmaker, and never look back (as far a cutting tools go). I even think that if the Earth ever gets their collective asslikesubstance together and organize an off-world force for exploration or imperialization (don't care, I'll take either), how would we arm our troops. Easy, Spyderco, Glock, and AK-Variant, probably Leathermans too.

Yeah....I try not to cut rocks with it.

Haha yes. I just used my M390 Military as one of my tools in building a bamboo table for my radio but after cleanup, you wouldn't know it's been used. The table is rudimentary and not very good because I had to shim one of the legs to keep it from rocking but yes, my knife was used.

How's the grip on that Ti all covered in the mess of your kill?

Also, for the op, I don't own a single Spyderco that doesn't get used. They're just too darn comfortable not to.

I have used the ti Millie numerous times in that capacity and have never felt an issue with the grip. Certainly not as grippy as g10 but not slick/slippery like some other materials. The ergonomics are good enough on the Millie that it didn't feel like an issue.
