Uses for the Izula?

we have sold over 2000 Izulas in January so we have no reason to bullshit someone to sell one more. Ask an honest question around here and you will get an honest answer.

Hey, so I'm one in "over 2000"?

:D

For me, the Izula is like the .38 Special revolver. Small enough to carry but large enough to get the job done. Also, the simplicity of the design is art in itself. Just like the revolver, there's no complicated mechanisms to get in the way. It's ready to do its job whenever you need it to.

Simple. Basic. Clean.

although an esee 3'-5" would be found on the pistol belt, i can see an izula being attached to every chest rig a guy owns. there is nothing worse than being without a knife. but no matter what gear you are supporting a particular weapon system with, there should be some form of a cutting tool on it. the izula is thin and light enough to fit that bill perfectly. and even for it's size, it is no toy. some knives are cute and cuddly, the izula is obviously meant to play in the big boy sandbox.

And this is why you'll sell 2000 more. So pragmatic. If only the rest of the world...

I've owned both izzy and izzy2

like the handles on the 2, but I have smaller hands and prefer how the cord wrapped izula 1 feels

Thanks for all the input everyone.
I'm trying to decide between the Izula w/ cord wrap and Izula II.
Anybody use both and care to comment about the comfort of each?
Lenny

I haven't owned both, but I was obsessive enough to measure my palm width, and at 3.5" my pinky pretty much falls inline with the hole on the butt of the handle, or I can move the knife a little more forward and snug it up against the inside of my pinky.

Also, I don't know about needs or wants or reasons to get it... I think I just got mine to try it. However, I'll just say that for whatever reason, it slices food up better than any of my other knives. I think something about the full flat grind and the coating just makes it glide through.

Same questions are why it took me a year to finally buy one.
I was very interested in the dirt-simple concept of a fixed blade EDC, but
something about it never materialized. Having gotten over that, I am happy with my
purchase. Will it be on me 3 years from now? I have no idea. But I know I will have at least satisfied my curiosity.

I for one needed an Izula, cause my folders dropped out of legal carry due to law changes made in Germany 2 years ago. And the Izula carries somewhat better than the still legal Opinel, IMHO.
The Opinel is a great knife, especially for the price, but it is a bit bulky.

izula!

a you won't get fat using izula, hell you will probably get a workout putting it through it's paces in the woods

b get a real hamburger from 5 guys =)

I have a case folder and a IZULA for EDC. More and more I find myself reaching for the IZULA to do even smallest tasks instead of into my pocket for the case... I have a IZULA and a IZULA II and take weeks about carrying each. Buy the knife you will not go wrong...

OK, I'm smitten by this knife.
But I honestly don't know what I'd use it for.
I don't hunt, and camp only rarely.
As far as EDC goes, I have a few Spydercos with longer blades that do
everything I ask of them.
You see, I'm not the kind of person who just buys knives and lets them sit in a drawer. I want to use each and every one, which is why I only own a few.
So, what do you all use your Izula's for on a day to day basis?
Is there anything that it can do that my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 can't do?
Thanks all.
Lenny

Hey Lenny...buy the IZULA. If you don't like it or use it, I will buy it from you!

i've never held the izula ii, but i love my izula with paracord wrap. my palm is about 3.5" wide and i love the way the izzy fits me. others have stated the same with similar palm dimensions. when i grip the izzy, it sits at the perfect angle of attack (not fight, just use) for the blade to cut best and the hole is perfectly in line for the tip of my pinky to drop in. if you have larger hands, as many people do, you may want to consider the ii.

as far as needing it goes, you probably don't. however, it is easily my favorite knife at the moment and i carry it everywhere, even though i also carry a folder with a longer blade. the izzy is thicker than my folder and more sturdy. different tools with a bit of overlap, but not bulky enough for me to care. i love my izula.

I have the ESEE-4, 6 and BK2 and a bunch of folders, my favorite being the Endura/Delica. Because of the folders I've not bought a Izula.

It just does not seem practical to me at this time. Not because it's a bad knife, obviously it's a great one, but I'm used to my folders.

This thread is a great example of how awesome this forum is.

I have debated want vs need quite a bit with knives. I didn't need an Izula, but I got one and found it to be a really excellent and useful knife. An upgrade to some of the stuff I had been using and it fit a niche of small FB that is really useful for me when hiking or when the task might be considered abuse with a folding knife.

Currently I use the Izula in the factory sheath carried via molle on my Maxpedition bag, and I also made a neck sheath for it. If I could get used to pocket carry of the Izula, I would use it even more. Do you guys just drop the factory sheath in the pocket or do you use a true pocket sheath, like the KSF leather ones?

OK, another question.
What's the most minimally designed, readily available sheath for the Izula II that can be mounted horizontally on the belt? Minimum size, while still holding the knife securely is very important to me.
Or, if you have a custom kydex or leather sheath that mounts horiz, I'd like to see it.
Thanks all.

Lenny,

I appreciate your sensibility. The collect-em-all attitude here makes me crazy sometimes (maybe it's because I can't?) Buy a knife if it will fit your needs and fill an important role, not because of knife envy. That said, I had gotten the Izy to try out and see how I liked the company. (Very pleased naturally.) I was EDCing a Spyderco Delica 4, one of the best folders ever for civy EDC. I've made a pocket sheath for my Izula now I just love the thing. I do miss opening and closing the Spydie, my hands need occupied so I can think it seems lol. Think hard about if this knife really will make a difference for YOUR NEEDS, and don't let the guys here work you up into a frenzy.

God bless,
Adam

The one that comes stock is injection-molded plastic and it has a VERY slim profile. You can buy an aftermarket clip or buy it in a pack that includes a clip that screws onto the sheath. I use that set-up and clip it into my front pocket. The knife does not get in my way and maintains a very slim profile.....

You can have someone make you a custom kydex or leather sheath for horizontal mount, lots of people attach kydex with tek-loks. Go to doublebarrelsheaths.com ....they have some kydex izula sheaths but I really like the one that comes with it.

To be perfectly honest, as much as I loved the Izzy, I first hated the sheath.
It is quite wide and was to me an ugly black block of plastic.
First chance I got I ordered a kydex neck sheath, which of course is less wide, but I'm only using it on the rare occasions I have to resort to neck carry.
The standard sheath really has grown on me: it is just so versatile. Just with the sheath and a little paracord you have multiple ways of carrying, horizontally or vertically on the belt, behind the belt, inside waist band (with just a little loop of paracord around the belt), in the front pocket dummy corded to the belt (or dummy corded to a small paracord loop inside the pocket - I fitted several of my trousers with those).

Much thought and consideration have gone into that sheath.
