Using a knife blade as beer bottle opener?

finally managed to do it..

used the spine of the blade and lift the knife in forward and upward motion...the bottle cap flicked open and flew in the air.

finally i have some party tricks up my sleeve ..lol

I personally think beer bottles open better with a Bic style lighter. For some reason I can never use my wave on my Emersons to open a beer.

get a grip on the bottle so high you barely have room for whatever your going to pop it off with. anchor all the force on the area by your knuckle, lift the handle, tight grip on the bottle and POP. you now have one less thing to carry :D

i find it very difficult to open with bic lighters..some friends of mine just use teeth...i dont have such skills

ya...the knuckle hurts if u dont do it fast enough..but practicing....4 beers down:

I use a Victorinox Rally SAK on my keychain. It's tiny and barely weighs anything. Also has screwdrivers. Was under $15.

..nothing beats that feeling of leaving someone in utter awe...never been impressed by any boring old bottle opener in my life but a cap that can dent the ceiling? ...now you're talking:p
Yes, that would be a slick move.
This is all very exciting.
but now been somewhat mightily disappointed
that all these years of flipping open knives with the thumb.
hasn't the least bit given raise to some super human thumb strength.
figure i might need to do some more high resistance thumb work outs
to lift open caps with a single thumb flip
and advise others to skip attempting such cap lifting feats
as that so aptly discussed here
with cheap steel knock offs.
cheers!

Using the blade spine is good but be careful with a very narrow blade. Also don't use the end of a plastic or g10 handle as you'll mar or chip the scale.

Wish I read this before I tried it, just did this to my PM2 with CF scales. Stupid part was I had a leatherman on me too, but wanted to try it with a knife!

sorry to see that..hope its lock mechanism isnt damaged.

i tried it only after watching video...key is to lift the knife forward and upward instead of rotating it sideways..it also is a safer way as edge wont be biting into your finger skin that way in case it slips.

I have a nice scar on my forearm from using a Sharpfinger's spine to open a gooseneck Budweiser on a camping trip. Sterilized it with vodka. Dont drink anymore.

the key is to use a part of the knife that is harder than the cap you're lifting. I have a pink dozier ka-bar that has that many grooves taken out of it because I was too lazy to open it, so I used the back of the scales instead of the back of the spine. it's cool though, chicks dig scars right?

It's tiny. The caplifter works. I usually loosen the cap on one side then it'll pop right off after using the caplifter at a second spot.
