Using a lanyard on your knives?

only on my fixed blades and nothing fancy; just a big loop to put my hand through...

I'd sure like to see a pic of your Izula rig. I pocket carry one in a kydex sheath for my EDC. :)

Here you go!

I dont like a lanyard but still have it. It is just useful for me when working around water or on the roof.

Ive tried them several times on different knives.

I always find they get in the way and they end up getting cut off.

They do make for pretty pictures though

I dig the monkeyball lanyard! :D What keeps the sheath anchored in your pocket if you pull it, or does the sheathed Izula pop out and you unsheath it?

I see it has a lip for thumbing it off when in the pocket. Very nice. Did you make that or buy it?

bought the sheath from another forum member. i just use my thumb to pop the sheath off before or after i finish pulling the knife from my pocket.

I made the monkeys fist lanyard myself. I've been thinking of upgrading to a gold account and selling them on here.

I saw some with steel ball bearings of different sizes some months back - expensive... Nice work, I'd probably buy one or two.

I use a wooden bead in the middle. gives a decent size to the monkey fist. I will see about getting the gold membership.

I've put quite a few lanyards on knives I've made, some like them, some think it's like putting panties on a knife. I know of one older gentleman who had a very nice high end pocket knife with a lanyard due to it made it easier for him to retrieve his blade. Anyway, he got it yanked from his pocket by a fast moving thief coming out of a sports event....the theif grabbed his lanyard and his blade was gone in a flash. I'd never heard of such a thing before but, I imagine it's possible.

This is the main reason I don't use a lanyard. I was on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and someone tugged at my Co-Pilot in my front pocket. If I'm going to a public event like that I don't even carry anything unless its heavy enough to feel at all times. It's kind of why I went less practical and started carrying large knives. I'll even put my wallet in my wife's purse because she has that thing on lockdown. However, I totally see the ease of use and the benefit of having a extra cord just in case.

To me the idea of a length of cord on a knife is so you can wrap it around your wrist when you are working on something in the woods, on a boat, or on a roof perhaps. It's a means to keep it attached to you so you won't lose it. I've never lost a knife out of my pockets yet. (Probably just jinxed myself).

Howdy fellas I'm new to the forums and this is my first post. I was just curios if you guys like attaching paracord lanyards on your knives? I am wondering because I recently purchased a zt 0350 and can't decide if I like having a lanyard on it? Any opinions?

I think you should try one out just to see if you like using one.
The fact is, some people like them and some people don't.
So the only way you'll find out if you like them is to try one out.

i put lanyards on everything I can. Knives, machetes, water bottles...I tried attaching one to my girlfriend but that didn't go over to well.
I'm guessing you used the wrong knot or material. Lanyards for girlfriends must be small and round and made of a hard substance. Gold works…

But back on topic. I have a lanyard with a bead on the end on small knives. The bead is at the right length to allow a four finger grip on a two finger knife.

On other knives, it is for visibility when I drop the knife on a forest floor.

I like lanyards sometimes. I generally put one of some description on new knives, some stay on, some don't.

Small one with whistle on Izula
Small one as a drawing aid and grip extension on Subclaw.
On the SAK and multi-tool too because sometimes it helps me fish them out of a cluttered pocket.
The Minimalist necker comes with one from the factory.

What is that knot called? I need to learn to tie that one.

It is called a hang mans noose. Usually comes on a Chris Reeve. His website also shows how to tie one.

Here is mine. A semi hangmans noose at the front with a hangmans noose at the end. Commonly found on Chris Reeve fixed blades.

I love them and use them on all my knives.

My 9 yr old Daughter (Katie) has been tieing them and selling them here on BF for a over a year now - (see the Gadgete & Gear area).

Like most here I find them very useful on smaller knives without clips and larger knives that I want to wrist wrap, but they also can be made with smaller fobs and just for decoration.

Also, I find if the knife is a neck knife or that size I find the Fob helps to fill the back side of the hand if the handle of the knife is smaller in length. Hope that makes sense.
