I don't think batoning is really that tough on a blade. Maybe blasting through knots is and requires a tougher knife, but it is really amazing at how a thin blade can go through wood batoning.

I haven't exactly tried my rapala fillet knife batoning yet, but I bet it could with a little care and attention!

You'd be surprised, don't use a knife you cherish is all I have to say about this:eek::confused::grumpy:

batoning can be both ends of the spectrum... it really depends...
a smallish 4 inch diameter log isn't a probloem for most sturdy knives.

i've even batoned alot with some of my folders...
but when you get into 5-9 inch diameter hardwood filled with knots.. yeah...
thats a whole different story.
