Using the knife pommel as a hammer

The Cuchillo del Monte is made by Aitor. They are actually a very good maker. My copy of the knife takes a really good edge and hold it pretty well. Steel is close to 440-C.

Sorry N2S... Aitor... they also made a couple of nice hollow handle survival knives that had a well thought out package... They make decent stuff and I agree with you on the edge you can get with a Cuchillo d'Monte... A wicked knife when sharpened!

I never could figure out why anyone would want to hammer anything with the pommel of a knife, or when that became a salient marketing point.

I just added the content at top of the page:

Actually, using the pommel as a hammer comes in handy when driving tent pegs into the ground for campers and backpackers. Of course a rock would work as well, but you'd be surprised that when you need one, you cant find one, so the knife pommel works well. For safety's sake, leave it in the sheath when hammering.

I've been warned from when I was a child not to hammer with a pommel or "you'll put your eye out'.I'm not kidding.tom.
