I received mine a short time ago, and while the knife is fine the sheath definitely needs improvement ; it's nearly impossible to draw the knife from the sheath. I contacted Ka-Bar and was told that they are aware of the problem but continued knife withdrawal will loosen it up. She also mentioned that a leather sheath should be available in about a week. I think they should be replacing the plastic sheath with a leather one ; after all, the knife is priced considerably more than a standard Ka-Bar with a leather sheath.

Just got this today. I think the sheath is very well done.

I think the issue you may be having is that there seems to be a safety on the sheath that locks the mechanism. Haven’t seen any mention of this. Look near the thumb mechanism on the sheath, there’s a bolt that goes through to both sides of the sheath. It’s very much like a gun safety. Make sure it’s pushed all the way down.
