USPS Has failed me (buyer) word of caution to all sellers! LONG (sorry).

I'm sorry. I wasn't referring to the OP's package. I was commenting on some of the other posts about packing.

Please understand...with 24 hr kiosks and "Click and Ship" it is impossible to catch it all.

No worries. I completely understand now.
Yes that is a very good point about the click and ship and kiosks.

After reading this thread I have to comment.

During the playoffs a couple of years ago, I bought some Penguin tickets for my family out of town. I mailed them and insured them for $350-400, don't remember the exact value. They never made it to my family. When I tried to be reimbursed for the tickets, USPS told me I had to prove their were tickets in the envelope. I showed them pictures of the tickets and a receipt from the purchase. They told me they didn't believe that they were in the envelope. Ridfrickindiculous!! I bought insurance, you lost the mail, I get paid. But noooooooo.

After much time on the phone and finally getting to a high level person in D.C., maybe Post Master General? I forget, we are talking 30+ calls and hours upon hours of time, they paid.

The interesting thing they told me, if you want something to arrive at its destination, don't insure it. The insurance marks the envelope/package for thieves.

Sorry to hear that.

Yet another story that makes me uncertain about whether or not USPS insurance is worth the extra money.

I will say, 98% of the time I ship knives in a Small Flat Rate box. I'll put the knife in one of those thin priority envelopes and put the address on the envelope, just in case the box becomes compromised. I then pack that in the Small FR box. I always bring my own packing tape and over tape the box.

Stumbled on this thread, I am having a similar fight with USPS right now. I mailed a Sebenza 25 in a small flat rate envelope with $400 of insurance and the package never arrived and was "lost."

But they've denied my claim twice because I haven't proven value, even though I've sent a screenshot of the item from an authorized dealer and a copy of my credit card receipt showing a PayPal payment to an individual on a private sale. I've now submitted my third appeal and haven't received a response. I attempted to call customer service today but there are no options to speak to anybody and no options for claims.

Contact your Congressman and U.S. Senator. USPS has an ombudsman of sorts. Find out the name of the boss of whoever is stiffing you and so on up the feeding chain. File a Better Business Bureau complaint. Send snailmail letters. Be calm, polite and clear. Convey determination - NOT just going away. Your right. They're wrong. Congress is not real happy with USPS. It is losing 5-6 $billlion a year - made up by taxpayers.

smuiradise smuiradise your tale upsets me--and I don't even have any direct involvement! Actually, I followed this thread when it was fresh, and was flummoxed & a little indignant then as well.

I'll confess that my local USPS branch manager is a stand-up guy that helped quickly resolve a less severe USPS screw-up last fall. That still does not change the way I feel about dead-end bureaucracy screwing the well intended and morally corect customer--regardless of the bureaucracy in question.

Not much I can do other than tell you we're all rooting for your success.

I package all my knives I ship ""BOMB AND THIEF PROOF"" I may go overboard
BUT it protects the contents from thieves that see an easy package too quickly get
into... I have spoken to a Postal Supervisor and he stated many carriers and sorters
carry razors and can get into boxes quickly--BUT if you package the hell out of the box
they will figure its too much work to get into it and move on to easy box..
An ounce of prevention so to speak. Spend the time and put forth the effort in every deal.

Often if a box is opened by postal worker..?? It is because they found a FAST way to get
into box.. Padded envelopes in my eyes are JUST asking for trouble..And seller being LAZY!!!!
A box..with layered in padding and protective packing helps detour thieves from
a quick thieving..

The seller must take ""some"" responsibility NO MATTER what the loss is that must be
worked out between buyer & seller
Insurance through the USPS is a JOKE and very very deceptive..
They find every and any way NOT to pay you..

I am sorry for your loss..And all the time you spent with high hopes.
A deal is NOT COMPLETE until both parties are satisfied.. This is a standard across the
board rule we in BF follow..

Feel free to write..make calls...stand in line to talk to people that have no clue
of how to do their job..Write you Congressman..?? Really.... Good luck..
I feel from my past experiences and the loss of a few knives that I had to
be responsible and reimburse the buyer...Its a WASTE OF MY TIME.. To spend
any of my time trying to change a system that is so broken it isnt funny..
Chalk it up and move on.

USPS is horrible... FedEx is horrible... UPS is horrible... all carriers have their many cons. USPS is particularly awful they always jam my packages into my tiny mailbox, or mark something delivered/out for delivery when it is not (even today). I ship with the using their boxes since they are the cheapest but I would prefer not to use them.

I hope you know know that using the USPS supplies for any other purpose other than selecting the USPS as the actual carrier and also using the supply correctly (for example can not use a Priority Mail box for a First-Class package) is against their term of use, and also against Federal Law. Yes, you may laugh and most likely we all have and will continue to do so until we get a serious slap on the wrist or worse, if a Postal Inspector decides to create some heat for egregious and repeated offenses. Yes, they can successfully prosecute you!

What the heck are you talking about? I say USPS sucks and you say.... I ship incorrectly and they can prosecute me?

Casinostocks, I am mostly talking about RECEIVING packages from USPS. They consistently mess up items that I order and the seller ships. When I ship I do flat rate and use flat rate boxes.
