I'm thinking about selling a few safe queens, mostly collecter knives. I don't like PP for several reasons and prefer USPS money orders for payment. When doing a deal with a USPS money order and shipping via USPS Priority mail the buyer has the full protection of the USPS Postal Inspectors. Is asking for this form of payment a deal breaker for some? If it is,I'll likely not bother listing them.

It is a dealbreaker for some people, but the same is true about PayPal. You could list the ads and write "USPS money order preferred," bending your rule depending on response.
Good luck with the sales.

I prefer USPS M/O's as well, that is the only way I buy or sell on the forums.

I have had a few members retract there " I'll take it " after realizing that I don't do paypal but that has never been a problem as other members end up buying what ever I was selling and sending the USPS M/O.

I have yet to have any member refuse to sell to me because I would be paying with a USPS M/O.

I say list your safe queens if you want, if any member does not like the terms of YOUR sale then they need to move on to another for sale thread where they can agree to the sellers terms.

I wouldn't let that stop you from listing.

If that's the form of payment you prefer, so be it.

If someone is willing to pay your price in the form of payment you want, what does it matter if there are others who won't?

I know some people do prefer paypal but if it something they really want I don't see them not buying it because they have to do a MO.

P/P is faster but imho the USPS route offers the buyer much more protection. I've seen the Postal Inspectors at work. Lol,they still make house calls.

USPS M.O. wasn't an inconvenience- it worked perfect for our transaction!

Because I will not use Paypal, it's a deal breaker for me when someone lists a piece for sale as "Paypal Only." My guess is that you will find both....

In a time where most of the green horns are getting into knives, going to the post office, waiting in line, buying a money order, filling it out, and having to mail it and actually wait an extra couple days is probably thought of as totally insane and a non-option. On the other hand, some peope have no qualms at all abot getting off the couch and getting some fresh air. If I see something I like, I will send paypal or a money order, whatever the seller asks. I have no problem either way and have bought many a knife with a money order.

I've only bought one knife from the exchange and it was from flatlander1963.I mailed him a USPS M/O and he sent the knife at the same time.Lol,they crossed paths in the mail.

I am exactly of the same mindset. I have a slight preference for PayPal for sake of convenience, but both are perfectly acceptable to and from me.

I recently was interested in a couple of Hinderers, but figured that if I asked them to wait for a money order I would just be passed up for a buyer willing to use paypal. I say "your knives, your rules". Everyone should just be clear about what's preferable, and what's acceptable.

Deal breaker, get with the program old timers! Only joking of course. I much prefer PayPal as it's faster, easier, & more secure! Having said that I won't pass on something if a MO was all the seller accepted.

In the few sales I've posted on here I did say paypal only. Mostly because I've never used a usps money order. I think I will adjust my thinking to accept those as well.

If receiving a usps money order, do you mark the item sold or sold pending funds until the money order arrives?

I have purchased 20-25 knives off of the Forum with USPS MO's and have had no problems whatsoever. Yes, it takes an extra 10 minutes out of your day to get one, fill it out and mail it off - I live in a small town so post office waits aren't too bad. The cost of the MO is usually less than the Paypal fees, unless you are selling an inexpensive knife. There are always the postal inspectors to fall back on if there is a problem. I have passed up several deals when the seller says PP only, but have asked a number of times when it wasn't declared and not had anybody turn me down. I really don't think it will hamper your sales.

If you had to deal with my local post office you would understand why it's a deal breaker for me. It's more like a visit to the monkey house at the zoo. Actually the monkeys are probably better organized than the postal employees. . .

If the deal is good enough and I want the knife bad enough I would use a USPS money order. That said, I never have and vastly prefer paypal.
