If receiving a usps money order, do you mark the item sold or sold pending funds until the money order arrives?

That is another issue. With the amount of flakes out there and how quickly your ad can move down to page 2, I like paypal because there is no waiting. If I have a line of buyers I don't really want to wait for a USPS money order to get to me to see if the guy is a flake. We are talking several days of waiting to find out if someone actually did what they said in sending the MO.

That is a good point. I think I'll reserve that option for only members with great feedback.

That is where experience comes in. It's a non-issue really. You sell to people that are proven reliable. Some guy with a half dozen posts and none of them that really provide any indication of their character then that is pretty obvious. You ALWAYS do research on who you are buying from or selling to, anything less is taking a huge risk.

In the few sales I've posted on here I did say paypal only. Mostly because I've never used a usps money order. I think I will adjust my thinking to accept those as well.

Sold pending funds, as soon as you deposit or cash the money order it becomes sold/no longer available. That is how I've done it. Think of the money order as a guaranteed check, you cash it at the post office, preferably before noon to make sure they have the funds to cover it, and off you go with a fat wallet. :)

I'm thinking about selling a few safe queens, mostly collecter knives. I don't like PP for several reasons and prefer USPS money orders for payment. When doing a deal with a USPS money order and shipping via USPS Priority mail the buyer has the full protection of the USPS Postal Inspectors. Is asking for this form of payment a deal breaker for some? If it is,I'll likely not bother listing them.
I've only had one buyer who was hesitant to send one. Once I explained the built in protection through the postal inspectors he was OK with it.

PayPal is more convenient and quicker but PO Money Orders offer far more protection. A scammed can play eBay, but most would have to be a special kind of stupid to want to fight the government and federal law. On a side note, the money order protection is WAY cheaper. I have sent a nearly $200 money order for like $3.

USPS MO's are supreme IMO. For both buyer and seller.

Why involve a third party with rules the likes of PayPal? Even if you accept it, it is still added risk.

I also prefer to support transactions that don't involve borrowed money.

I have just purchased a folder where the seller asked for a USPS money order. The main P.O., where I can buy one, is a long ways away, so the buyer said I could just send a Bank money order from my bank. I told him to keep the knife until my money order cleared his bank. It's okay, but it takes a long time to get in a knife that you'd like to see...particularly if your feedback is pretty high...
That's where Paypal shines...the time factor and ease of payment...
