USPS Priority flat rate boxes are no longer a Priority...

I always use USPS, no issues except for maybe being a day late. No big deal on that. Just insure your packages and if they lose it you get the money back. There are a lot of other things to worry about!

I have shipped hundreds of packages USPS over the last several years and several to the far ends of the Earth. Not a single one was lost. Once one did not get delivered and a few phone calls got the package located at the post office and they tracked down the postal worker for explanation. He delivered it promptly once he was called on not delivering it What is important is to use the biggest box you can afford, tape it all the way around and make sure it gets scanned for delivery with confirmation.
Postal workers have told me a small packages get lost far more.

It's very interesting and confusing - about 6 USPS first class mails were delivered to me in the Bay Area in two to three days of they being shipped from as far as the east coast!

Probably their conveyor belts for first class and priority have been swapped by mistake? LOL.

USPS is way better than any shipping service. I have UPS and FedEx nightmare stories to tell...

I have usually had good luck with USPS. I recently had a Sharpmaker that went missing and was never found because they put wrong zip code (for a city 15 minutes from me). I had a Surefire M3 that was lost but at least the empty flat rate box showed up several weeks later.

Recently, things are running pretty slow. I have had a trade show up about 5 days late and a Hinderer show up a day late...both sent priority. Tis the season!

I ship at least 5 packages a week, all with USPS and I NEVER have any trouble. When you consider the number of packages they handle and the number they lose, you have to agree that they are doing a great job. Del. Conf. is only to let you know that the package has been delivered. So don't gripe about a lost package if you don't have it INSURED. It makes absolutely no sense to ship a valuable item and not spend the few extra bucks to insure it. It also never fails that this time of year it is possible for any shipping service to be a day or two late. You just have to accept that fact and allow extra time to compensate.

I honestly prefer USPS over just about anyone else. My only issue with them is that the tracking information can be a little late to update. I ofyen receive stuff a day before the expected delivery date.

I had a large flat rate box scheduled to be delivered on the 13th, it showed up on the 12th.
I was pleasantly surprised considering the time of year.

I have always used USPS to ship all my packages and you can find many people that will tell you how fast my shipping is. I rarely have a parcel take more than three days and I ship many knives a day, everyday. One thing I will say is that most people do not realize that first class packages are treated exactly as priority packages. Any parcel I ship that is under 13 oz. goes first class for $3.28 down to $2.15 and includes tracking. I have been very happy with their service and give a lot of my shipping success to them.

Were those "first class mails" letters?
Is "priority" generally a package?

Yes, they go by different mail streams within USPS. The simple mechanics of moving letters and packages will move greater numbers of letters faster.

"LOL."

This is one of the reasons that the USPS is near bankruptcy. They don't provide the same level of service as their competitors.

Hehehe... funny.
The competitors aren't much better. UPS is hit and miss and FedEx is just the dregs. I'd say, all things considered, USPS probably is as good as or a little better than other companies.

I find USPS 10 times better than the others even with their problems.I hate UPS so much that I have not ordered from companies that only ship with them.It takes 10 days for a UPS delivery from the west coast compared to two days with priority mail.Last package I ordered from CountyComm was sent UPS.10 days later UPS took my package to my local PO for the final delivery instead of dropping it at my house there by adding an extra day to the wait time.My house is two miles from my local PO.

Nope - first class packages vs priority packages.

From what I know, this UPS + USPS on the last mile is the cheapest commercial option avl. And yes it does take 10 days typical!

It's been a while since I've had a problem with a Postal Service delivery. I don't have any packages delivered to my home though; I have a PO Box for USPS deliveries and a work address for UPS or FedEx.

It is expected that 100 million, 100,000,000, more pieces of mail will be sent today vs an average day at the USPS. These extra pieces of mail are packages this time of year.

I was inside an urban Post Office in Portland Saturday evening. There were so many huge containers, moveable only by machine, of packages that you couldn't see more than a few feet in any direction and walking from one end of the huge building to the other end was done as if in a maze and the delivery trucks kept coming. This degree of scale up would probably break most organizations. There is a wind/rain storm in progress, continuing from last night, power is out in places, trees are down and it is snowing at higher elevations. The men and women of the Postal Service will go to work and do their job today.

Here is a picture of a private vehicle, at the above described Post Office, with its load of mail from last Saturday, 12-15-2012, just before leaving the post office to begin delivery on its 50 mile rural route to hundreds of customers over rivers, thru woods and in the hills to shot gun shacks and mansions.

I never understand this, in my experience the USPS is by far and away the best mail service in the country. Cheapest, most effective, safest. Get to know your local postmaster and delivery person, it makes a huge difference.

I had a package just last week that was late and there were no updates to the tracking online. I went to see my local post master, she took my number and said give me a day or two to find your package for you.

Two days later, the package arrives in the mail and she calls me later that night just to check and make sure I got it, and to tell me she had to but the fire under a couple peoples butts to get me some information.

I don't think I would have gotten that type of service from a private shipping company. Mail through the USPS is federally protected from tampering, theft, misuse, which for the most part insures quality and careful delivery.

Mail thru private shippers is not (that doesn't mean they don't provide quality service).

Another great advantage to me, is, i live in a major downtown area and only the USPS has a key to get into my front door, and can leave packages in the hallway (leaving them outside, might as well give them away). With ups/fedex we have to tango to match up our delivery times, and it usually takes 3 attempts for me to get my package.

I fully support the USPS and I wish everyone else did too, Whenever I send mail or ge mail sent to me, it goes through the USPS

I ship and receive regularly and have never had a problem with USPS Priority Mail. I had problems every single time I used UPS and Fed-Ex... admittedly, that's been a year or two ago.

Impressive shot, tells a lot about the hard work of most people in the Post Office. I've worked in a P.O. (in Europe) I can tell you the vast majority of people there were dedicated people. Especially at this time of year, the Christmas New Year season and bad weather make it a tough job.
