USPS Priority Shipping Times in the last few months

Tax season
Inclement weather patterns
Spring break variations in school systems
Lots can be attributed to these things. I've noticed that some USPS channels are much better than others. For example, I bought a knife from a member in Indiana. He shipped on a Monday and it arrived on Wednesday (to my door in Southern AZ). I shipped the Money order out that same Monday, it took 5 days to reach him. I have no idea what happened there, but from North to South, everything is good. From South to North slow and steady was the way.

Only time priority mail gets slow for me when shipping something is in the winter. Then it will take like 4-5 days . But through this last month even parcel select shipping for me has been going through 6 states in around 4-5 days. Happy with USPS at the moment. They accually never have done me wrong really. As many times as i've shipped something very few problems.

I have noticed this.... If a shipper drops off an Item say early that Day it some times leaves the sate that Day. But other times it seems the USPS workers are just slacking and don't get things shipped out!

The workers aren't slacking. If the item gets to the station in the morning, it may go out on a truck around noon. If it misses that trip, it goes out late afternoon or closing time, and won't leave the state that day.

Yea, its been weird for me too. Been waiting on my "pimped" 0801 to ship from Oregon and its been sitting in the "Electronic Shipping Info Received" stage for a couple of days. Its frustrating because I am only at school for another week and then I go home and I only had the ZT 0801 less than a week before I shipped it off. Also its Priority 2 Day which means in theory, it should have been here today. Oh well, such is life. Hopefully it'll be here soon.

"Electronic Shipping Info Received" sounds like he bought the postage online but hasn't brought the package to the post office yet.

USPS Priority seems a bit spotty these days, more so than ever. Some packages shipped from NV have taken 7-10 days to get to their destination in the Midwest or East. Others have astoundingly quick shipping times. Just curious how many other users have made this observation too.

Guys, thanks for all the comments. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't the object of some alien conspiracy. All packages of mine are insured, dropped off at the P.O., are noted as accepted that day on the tracking information. They leave NV relatively soon, but then a few have been or still are "In Transit" for more than a week in some cases.

USPS service is generally amazing for what we pay, and my initial comment was not a complaint so much as a "is this happening to other folks too?".

My packages with tracking arrives at my local post office between 5 to 6 am. Our carrier doesn't deliveries until after 3 pm most times closer to 5 pm. Historically they sit until the next day. Twice on a Saturday the USPS tracking was updated to say delivery was "attempted". But no USPS slip was left and I was home. Both times I filed a compliant with the national help center. Finally the local postmaster called to apologize that it was true that there was no attempted deliveries. Since then I get same day delivery when my package arrives at my local post office. Lazy employees is my guess. I live in a somewhat rural area not an busy urban center. Never a problem with UPS or FedEx.

Well Damn...... The knife being shipped to me is actually insured for 600 but said 300 because anything over that is automatically shipped signature required. I also didn't want people to know what i spend on knives some times lol guess they do now!

I don't think they are "slacking" at all, but it has to do with times when packages are cleared. They are just as underpaid and overworked as everyone else. Every time I visit my local P.O., the lady (who is in mid-50's) is always busy, and never I have seen her taking a minute off. Actually my local P.O. is a humbling experience - makes me realize there are people paid far less than what I make, work more than I do, but still keep smiling. Slacking, hardly.

Show me a service that gets your knife in 2-3 days (most of the time, exceptions are well, exceptions) across the US for $6.

The average postal worker salary is in excess of $50K plus government benefits. It is hard to say they are underpaid.

USPS tracking shows two priority packages are out of my post office for delivery to me today. They were mailed two days ago. One 1,000 miles away. The other about 600 miles. That's as is usual for me.

Most of the packages i send or receive tend to arrive in a similar timetable. Only a handful of times did it take longer.

At least with USPS it is more likely to be deposited in your mail box and thereby offering more protection from the elements and thievery. Also, tampering with the U.S. Mail is a federal offense and thereby providing more of a deterrent against theft. If you must use a private courier then use UPS. IMHO Do not use FedEx, whatever you do.

I have noticed since around February (about a month after the end of Christmas shipping) that USPS has become really inconsistent. Stuff from a state over arriving in one day, across the country in two, and just over a state away being 3 days. I would love to know what on earth is going on.

Sadly, USPS is still more consistent than FedEx or UPS. I have had numerous "2 day" items from UPS be 3 or more, and quite a few overnight items through FedEx take 2 or 3 days. If one of the rush shipping items is late you either need to be refunded for the shipping or have your shipping prorated to what it would have cost.

We send and received literally thousands of packages. USPS is the best. No one comes close. UPS is a very far second. FedEx is by far the worst.

Friday we received three packages via FedEx. Three different trucks & drivers within an hour.:( One package had taken 10 days to arrive from Dallas.

We've noticed there are USPS hubs that will always slow down a package, Salt Lake City UT, San Jose CA, Portland OR, Chicago IL and Twin Cites MN. If a package is routed through any of these cities, add at least a day. All of southern California is schizophrenic about delivery times. Sometime two days, the next time four days. The worst is Portland. It is like a black hole for mail. We noticed several 4 day deliveries to Portland OR which is only a 3 hour drive from here.

Bottom line, I'm happy with the service we receive from USPS.
