I bought a knife from another member with a delivery conformation #. I followed the track and even had the PO email me the tracking status. The packaged only showed being tracked in the sellers home state.
According to the PO policy, the package should still be delivered to me. Empty or not. It was also delivered right back to him without the contents! Stolen I say!
After doing a lengthy follow up with the PO, I found out that they have quite a collection of knives in their possession in the San Bernadino PO. The knife was a Kershaw ENRG (the small one).
We did not have the contents insured but the seller was kind and offered me a refund. Damn them!:thumbdn:

USPS sucks agreed but not nearly as badly as the format of this post. I run 1600x1200 monitor res and still had to school two pages widths to read this post.

We did not have the contents insured

That's a shame, but it's always a risk, especially if it wasn't insured.

Also, I have received knives that people just toss in unpadded envelopes. Packing carefully and well is important.

USPS successfully delivers millions of pieces of mail each day. Were you trying to represent these with those exclamation points? :D

Did you simply mean to vent, or would you like advice on what to do next?

i'm gonna stir the crap up here, but USPS has been nothing but AWESOME in any dealing i have had . its UPS that has screwed me over, ripped me off on many occasions.

i use USPS Priority over UPS. just had better luck.

but, in all fairness, USPS lost a Seahorse Whittler from Knifecenter.com on me and when i went to complain the Postmaster was basically of the opinion that "you put it in the box and take your chances".

subsequent complaints uncovered that the package had been delivered to the wrong address, but no one knew where or when. it ended with them stating that Knifecenter must have addressed it wrong.

USPS > UPS. Every other package I have ever had delivered by UPS I have had to go down and personally pick up from the depot, because UPS drivers are often too busy to knock.

I am still pretty ticked off about the USPS Priority Mail box that was stolen from my doorstep, though.

I found the box ends ripped off and styrofoam peanuts all over one of the apartment complex dumpsters. This could have easily been avoided had the postal carrier left it with the leasing office.

I called the local police, filed a report with the Postmaster General, even turned over the box I'd handled only with gloves. Still, zero feedback from USPS, who are supposed to treat such incidents as felonies.

Of course, that wasn't really the postal carrier's responsibility. But it still doesn't stop me from being ticked off that I lost $80.00 of specialized paintball marker parts that the fine gentleman who stole them from the shipping box probably can't even identify.

I will stir the pot a bit. I have had 100% success with USPS in shipping nearly 300 packages in the past 12 months. Every business is capable of failing at some point or another especially with the volume they handle. UPSP furnishes boxes and shipping supplies for free. See what UPS tells you about that.

UPS? Now that is a different story in my experience. I avoid them when at all possible. I will not even begin to go there with the problems I have had with them over the years. I do think that the main problem is poor management in my area. The packages typically do fine until out for delivery. I have called them and they show very little concern.

Personally I feel that the USPS is moving forward in the right direction and UPS is regressing. I base my opinion on actual first hand experiences and not isolated incidences.

… And no I am not an employee or officially associated with the USPS in any form or fashion. Just a shipper and receiver of packages.

UPS sucks. Tracking system is a crock. DHL is alright and FedEx is the best (most expensive).
USPS sucks, but they are usually quick. I get confilicting advice when I got into different stores though. I was told by the PO, all the way up until about a month ago, that you get an automatic $100 insurance if you use priority mail. That's a lie. Post office cost me about $100 bucks in cancelled checks and late fees in February, but you know what I did about it? Absolutely nothing. You can't. They don't give a flying chit about anything you own or anything you may have shipped through them. They literally have the mentality of, "drop it off and hope it gets there." I know that they deliver millions of packages per day with no problems at all, but when that problem affects you, it's a different story. Bottom line with this story, GET THE INSURANCE, ALWAYS. Also, don't use little Pak Mails and stuff, they are more expensive than if you go directly to the PO.

It's Express Mail that comes with an automatic $100 insurance and higher amounts of coverage for a fee, but it wouldn't cover things like late fees - only loss, damage, document reconstruction, etc.

In my area USPS is great,
UPS is good, but they tend to crush packages.
Fedex and DHL are subcontractors and really leave a lot to be desired.
The worst I have been screwed is by Fedex.

Yeah, and Express mail starts at $16 and some change. If you pay for what you want, it's actually a good deal. USPS is almost always cheaper. It seems that their service seems to vary from area to area. It all depends on the people that work for the local PO. If you have a bunch of lazy tards, then you're gonna hate the PS. Tracking sucks too.

Hello from across the pond.

Can I stick up for the USPS and the British Royal Mail.

My latest purchase took five days from Chicago to here and trackable all the way. Pretty good IMHO.
