I recently had a trade with g.vantilburg. I had him ship his knife first. Today, i go to the mailbox and discover an empty package. Obviously, g.vantilburg would not send an empty package, and especially first. I am very disappointed in USPS. My advice to anyone out there who is considering shipping in a bubble package-DON'T. Send it in a box, so that whoever handles the package cannot determine or even have a clue about the content(s).

Picture of the opened package. I'm sure it does no justice, but that's all the evidence i got of the empty package. Think whatever you want to think.

I always try to ship knives in a box. I've had lots of envelopes show up with rips. I had one knife (I believe it was a Razel), that had came through and out of the envelope during shipping. Luckily someone put it back in the package and taped the hole up.

As Esav states, USPS will give you the box if you ship Priority.

It has been stated to death around here; DO NOT SHIP A KNIFE IN AN ENVELOPE OF ANY KIND! USE A BOX!!!!

You should also insure it for the replacement cost.

All of my leather work is shipped to my customers in boxes only (priority & insured). That includes the return of the customers knives if outfitted with a sheath. Too, I also include an additional shipping label INSIDE the box in the event the box is either damaged or opened. I, too, have received a few empty bubble wrap envelopes in the mail. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Sorry to hear about your loss. :(

I just had the same experience with CLO1. The P.O. sent the empty package right back to him even with delivery confirmation. The Postmaster I talked with said to always send boxes. The paper packages are useless. Why sell them?

Well, I receive a lot of knives internationally and 99% of them come in envelopes, BUT I always ask the sender to tape the edges. Never had a problem in years...

<Previous portion of post deleted. Nothing new to add that wasn't covered already and I'm sure the guys involved feel bad enough.>

SharpOne - - sorry to hear about your knife. I know how it is to look forward to getting a new knife and then have it damaged or lost when shipped out. Good luck, - - -
