I've noticed a trend lately for DC, from the postal service, not to show anything, it started out doing it a day or so after a package is mailed. Now I have a package on the way (I know it was mailed) and 3 days in and still showing,

"Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office. "

Anyone else getting this from them?

Carrier at pick up or Clerk at the counter for drop off are not scanning as ACCEPTED. Item not scanned initially will result in-
"Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office. "

I'm not so sure that's all there is to it. I've been getting it on packages I've mailed and watched them scan in at the counter. None ever went 3 days, though before it updated.

Remember DC is not tracking but merely just confirms delivery. Sometimes it is spot on and other times is doesn't work at all.

did you pay for it at the conter or did you pay on line for the shipping?? I always pay at the online post office and I get a free delivery confirmation number with the shipping. one time a bunch of my customers says the tracking was not working. I said I will send you out another knife if you done get it. it turns out that there tracking software was screwed up big time. you might look for that to be the case.

Seems to me usps tracking does not upload updates everyday as they should be. Lately it just shows when the item has been accepted and the next update is when it is out for delivery at your local postal office / zip code or has been delivered which is on average 3 days later.

I was right, it is a new trend, I called the post office and my package is there to be delivered today, they can see all the scans, I can't.

I know what you mean. I'm waiting for a Kershaw and a Ka-Bar, USPS puts them in California but they are supposed to be delivered today. Everytime I check the tracking, it says they are in California, which is quite a way from MO. Hopefully everything gets sorted out and I get my knives today.

I'd have been glad if mine had showed anything at all, as it was it's here and has never showed anything at all. Still doesn't.

Glad to hear that you got resolution from USPS. Its also important to keep in mind that USPS.com goes down periodically and sometimes packages sit in trucks / sorting centers / post offices for more then a day or two.

I walk all packages in and have them scanned at the counter as "Accepted" That way I have a reciept showing the post office actually has it. I recently last month sent a knife I made to a customer in Great Britain. The USPS website tracked it as being accpeted in CT (I am in So Cal) and a week before I actually sent it. The tracking said it made it to Vermont then stopped. I was shitting bricks for a couple of weeks and then the customer told me it arrived in the UK no problems.

Luckily I had the receipt showing I actually sent it. They also missed scanning packages to Kuwait and Brazil and it was not easy reassuring those people the packages had been sent when USPS never showed them scanned.

Now everything gets scanned at the counter before it is sent. I never just leave them there anymore. It is just not worth it.

I have this problem ALL the time. I live in Iowa and we only have one out going sorting facitily (Des Moines, Iowa). 75% of the pages I DC don't get scanned when they leave the state but rather once they get to another facility along the way.

3 of the 5 pages I mailed in this month have not been scanned until they are "out for delivery".

It's weird, I NEVER had this problem until the last 6 months of so.

I used to print all my labels up online and then schedule a pick up at my house. I never had any problem then. I never bothered to replace my printer, so now I take all my packages to the post office. Lately I've had some glitches and it's a real pain in the ass.

I think the issues folks are referring to might be a result of USPS being bankrupt / insolvent.

Lets watch the profanity in your postings folks.....
The only place it's suitable is in W&C, language in the general forums is to be kept family friendly and your cooperation is much appreciated.

My knives were supposed to be delivered yesterday, which they weren't. I checked the tracker, and it says it's in a totally different town (which is 100 miles southeast from me) and is "out for delivery". How is it out for delivery in that town, when I don't even live there?! Curse you, USPS!!!!

Well, it turns out the seller sent me tracking numbers, that were not DC numbers. They only insured the package and those were the numbers sent to me as tracking. They IMO, cheaped out on the deal and charged me enough to have included the extra for DC. Then they emailed me the insurance number as tracking, which would never work, as DC off their site. Oh well, I got the package anyway and the vendor got to pocket the few cents they saved by not including, DC.

So...my USPS story doesn't get any better. Now my knives are in a town 200 miles away and the tracker says they won't get here until next Friday!! That's 11 days past the original arrival date! I'm going to use that tracker and find my knives myself! Or...I'll just wait...
I just wan't to know how they end up getting further away when they had to pass right by my town to get to the first wrong town!!!
