I just looked at the USPS link. Scanned in Shrewsbury. Looks like I'll get it today or tomorrow. It's funny how the USPS and UPS central distribution is in the same town. I'm beginning to wonder if the Post Office doesn't sub contract UPS.
Sure they do. All the shipping companies carry the others' packages under certain circumstances. USPS goes to every address every day so they carry stuff "the last mile" for UPS, DHL, and Fed Ex for a fee - extra revenue for USPS and expanded markets for the others. Most USPS airmail is carried on FedEx planes - FedEx sells excess capacity on their fleet and gets revenue and other concessions in return; USPS pays favorable rates for lift capacity. There are "carry-back" programs where USPS brings carry-back packages to consolidation points and then turns it over to other carriers - enhanced revenue and expanded markets for all players. Next thing coming will be the ability to send UPS packages to PO Boxes - USPS will charge a fee for handling, storage, etc. and I don't know yet how this will be handled by UPS (maybe a surcharge for pieces addressed to PO Boxes.
