A lot of delays are pretty simply explained by taking into consideration the weather.
Many times packages are rerouted to a city not necessarily on the usual route for like shipments, just to get it out of and/or around winter storms.
Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Delays with airlines are cumulative. When the NE for instance gets pounded by winter weather, flights all over the US are affected. As is Ground shipping as storms move across the US.
The Postal Service doesn't delay your knife delivery just to piss you off. There's a reason...
