Rock on!!! :D:thumbup:

IMHO, the best Van Halen record was "Fair Warning" It happened to be their worst selling record other than possibly the Gary Cherone one (not sure what it sold) because a lot of people didn't know quite what to make of it, the couple of hit songs nonwithstanding. "Dirty Movies" is an all time classic right up their with "On Fire" and "DOA" in my book. What's the deal withall of these fossil bands coming back and doing the best shows they have done in years? Perhaps they should be included in the BALCO investigation:D I saw Rush and Roger Waters this year and they haven't sounded that good since long before Roger was eligible to join AARP and Neil wasn't trying to hide his bald spot with the Shriner's fez. Ditto for ZZ Top. I saw them at Hard Rock Live in Orlando and they haven't sounded that good or had a better song list for a show since I saw them for the first time on the tail end of Deguello tour in '81 and this was my 6th show. Steely Dan was great too. Could it be that it is relative because the current crop of bands are so bad live?

Th only "newer" bands that I have seen that put on any kind of decent show were Pearl Jam and the Black Crowes(not exactly new) and Velvet Revolver (new combination of not-so-new guys) John Mayer has potential, but he needs to realize that he can probably get laid just as much when he is playing with hard rock and Jimi covers with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino as he does when he place his "sensitive metrosexual" stuff...lol

Rush and Steely Dan have always been tight. Can't say as I've ever seen ZZ Top, and I caught Roger Waters a long time ago on the Radio KAOS tour. He is just a great performer, period. True, the current crop of bands doesn't do much for me, but that may be just nostalgia coloring my perception. In my mind, the shows I saw as a teenager (Priest, Maiden, Queensryche, Ozzy, Motorhead, Sabbath, to name a few) will live on in my mind as the ultimate. Don't waste my time with Linkin Park and Godsmack...

It is like the same...but different. :D

So.....HOW WAS THE FRICKEN' CONCERT?

I saw VH back in the day, when they were on their VH-II album tour (yes, ALBUM you fricken' young pukes). I thought that they actually sucked in concert, or more accurately... DLR sucked. He was off-key, forgot lyrics, and came off like an egotistical ass. The other three totally kicked sonic ass, no matter how alcohol and drug addled they were. They were very open with their usage of both onstage too... Eddie smoked joint after joint that fans were throwing onto the stage for him. Alex pretty much drank a 1.75 L bottle of Jack Daniels by himself, along with chugging most of a pitcher of beer during his drum solo. I'll never forget after the concert, the huge number of drunk guys pissing on the side of the old Chicago Stadium.

Now, I see why we have not heard an Update.

That must be One heck of a Hang Over.:D:D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the first VH album, just called Van Halen. I think that is their best album. Eruption, Runnin With the Devil, Jamie's Crying. Great album! That album brings me back to my early days of high school when hard rock and a few beers was a new and exciting experience.

One of my old squad leaders went to high school with Eddie, and while he was stationed in Germany he'd take leave and do the German tour with them. He said that Eddie smoked joints "like we smoke cigarettes!"

Gotta disagree, RUSH has always sounded good. At least everything they put out from 1980 til now. "Counterparts" has to be their hardest rocking CD and it's from 1994. I've got "Snakes and Arrows" in my CD player right now and I'm still impressed with them.

Eruption, Who could forget.
Cutting Edge for it's time, and still sounds fresh today.

Take your Pick.

How was the concert?:)
How was the SHOW???? :thumbup::thumbup:
To anyone who has seen the show, does Roth still do all the acrobatics and kicks?
So.....HOW WAS THE FRICKEN' CONCERT?

Sorry guys.

After the concert I had to get up at 4:00AM and catch a plane. I have been on the road all week.

I think my short review would be to repeat a quote that I heard once many years ago:

“You can wish for anything; except the way things used to be”
Now this is not to say it was bad, just to say that this was not the Van Halen of old, even though the songs were.

The only member who looked like a real rocker was Alex.
Eddie and DLR both had short haircuts.
Eddie looked like a businessman with his very short hair.
DLR looked, er, well; flamboyant – almost Liberace-like at times.
Wolfgang had the long shaggy hair going on but was way too young to look like a true rocker.

David had maybe 2 kicks – that was it. No aerial acrobatics.
However, no beer bellies on David and Eddie. They either work out or don’t eat much.

Even thought the acrobatics were missing, the energy wasn’t. The performances were definitely not phoned in. David and Alex looked like they were having a great time and were really giving it their all.

They played all the old songs from the DLR days – no new stuff. That was fine. I imagine that is what exactly what the audience wanted.

By far, my two favorite parts of the show were Alex’s drum solo and Eddie’s guitar solos. Just watching and hearing Eddie shred was worth the price of admission by itself – totally amazing.

Keep an eye out for me. I am the middle-aged guy walking around in the Van Halen concert tee-shirt with a smile on my face.
