Just picked up the Cold Steel Vaquero Grande from my brother's US shipping address.
It's the old version, the one with no pocket clip, and a kydex sheath.
Got back into Canada, and decided to go get some pics.

But there was a full-on homeless encampment right where all the best graffiti is...what to do?
Well, what would Stabman do?

They just became part of the photo-shoot; that's the sort of decision Stabman would make! :D

I don't think this knife will be the most useful in my collection.
It is a tad big for regular EDC too...the cops might frown on it slightly.

But it made for a fun photo-shoot. ;)

I'm surprised they didn't all run... you look a bit murdery there.

:D
I find that people on the fringes of society tend to be far more accepting of eccentricities.
The girl kept sketching whatever it was she was drawing, and the guy in the sleeping bag on the pallets remained passed out.
They sure are doing urban survival though, as last night got pretty cold. They had two fire pits going, though they were just smoldering on low, mostly coals so as to avoid making too much smoke during the warmer parts of the day.

Kind of surreal though, really.

Ah, the bum photo shoot, well done stabby.

Well, they probably don't get to star in too many photo-shoots, I'll bet. ;)

Definitely digging the new knife. It is nicer in many ways than the newer iteration of the Vaquero.
Has an insanely strong spring for the lock-bar; although it is a regular lock-back rather than a Tri-Ad, I wouldn't worry about it closing on my fingers, which is a nice thing.

It does look rather large. My largest folder is the 4max and even though I love it, it doesn't get carried as much as others.

I carried the XL Voyager Vaquero (newer iteration) a few times, and it really depends on the pants pocket design as to how comfortable it is to carry.
It is less handy for many knife tasks I have to do though; just a bit too long.
I used my Benchmade Skirmish at the lab last week to cut some hoses and zip-ties when changing out a chiller unit for the rotovapor device. It worked quite well, but being a tad over 4 inches of blade, was about the maximum length that is comfortable to use for that sort of task.

Up to about 4.5 inches of blade I find to be great for a pocketknife. Beyond that, it gets more unwieldy, at least for certain tasks.

Hold up.

You walked around in a homeless encampement with a big-ass folding knife opened up with a mask and shades, and took pictures nonetheless.

You're either admirably brave or admirably crazy. Either way I admire it. I don't think I'd have had the stones to do that.

Read the books and it'll all make perfect sense. :D:thumbsup:

They're interchangeable. ;)

Who watches the watchmen?

Always a good question. :)

Indeed! :D

If anyone was there you could have been charged with brandishing a weapon. Be more responsible.

Nice photos.

You're a braver man than me. Personally, I wouldn't go near any of the homeless encampments in anything less than a hazmat suit here in San Diego, due to the big Hepatitis A outbreak among the homeless.

In my jurisdiction the mask would have made the activity a felony.

You get to be the first person I tell not to buy my books.
If this seems "creepy" to you, your sensibilities would be shattered by what was written.
