On my way out to the Vasquez Peak Wilderness on Thursday I stopped by the Spyderco Outlet and got a Byrd Crow and Raven for $38! I decided to take the crow on my trip and test it out.

The blade had the sharp spyderco edge and cut up lots of tinder.

I also had these Tops with me. The little Ferret neck knife and the Recon Rover. I did some batoning with the Rover, but my primitive bone hammer didn't last long.

Stunning scenery man! WOW. I'll have top make it to Colorado some time.

Those pictures are unbelievable, I am constantly looking for a place to retire, CO might be in the front right now. Makes Fayetteville NC look like hell, if you ever want a house guest give me a holler. Chris

Beautiful country!! Nice clear photos -- I especially like the waterfall & columbine pics. Thank you for sharing them with us.

wow... those are some amzing pics.....  colorado is absolutely gorgeous.. i love it there.....:D

I love how everyone likes the pictures but no comments about the knives. When I was out I tried to get some shots people would like. Photography is my other expensive hobby, although these are all handheld shots with a P&S. There was no way I'd lug an SLR on this trip.

one again...wow....amazing, especially when an overpass is a hill in Wisconsin.

Great deals on the Spydercos, how tight do they lock up? Is there much blade waggle?

For the price I'm very impressed. The fit and finish is what you expect from Spyderco. They are liner locks, which can be a bit sketchy. But for $16 the crow is my new EDC until I get a Centofante 3. This replaces a CRKT M16Z I've had for 4 years or so. The steel seems great also, came with a wicked edge, and seems to hold it. You can wiggle the blade a tiny bit if you try to, but almost all liner locks will. Nothing noticed during use however.

It's good to hear about the fit and finish, I'd expect that. I'm using my Cricket for a money clip now because the liner lock will slip under even moderate pressure. It doesn't get much use (no $$$), but it works great for delicate work.

At $18, I put one in each glove comparatmente, each first aid kit....that's a great deal!

Hehe. I moved from Warsaw, NC to Colorado back in 1996 and haven't looked back. Unfortunately the cost of living there and a job opportunity made me move to Kansas. (although we like it here also)

I've camped in Vasquez Peak Wilderness a few times and loved it.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Colorado is so phenomenally gorgeous in the summer it is overwhelming. I'd carry it if I was just going to shoot, but for overnights it is too heavy, and I hike off trail a lot and wouldn't want to break it.
Well, after getting my SLR last year and 2 $350 lenses I realized that I really needed 3 $500 lenses to get the shots I want. So currently I have a body with no lenses. I have a Rebel XT and my kit will soon contain. Canon 17-85 IS, Tokina 12-24 and Canon 70-300 IS. This will cover all bases, good wide angle, image stabilized zoom for wildlife and all around IS lens for low light. Hopefully by the time the summer bloom is peaking I'll be ready.
