Vasquez Peak Wilderness trip....lots of pictures.

Ilbruche, those are some of the best photos I've seen anywhere! Thanks a lot for posting them for us to see. The knives are nice, but the scenery and flora just overshadows anything manmade.

Runningboar, you might also consider retiring to someplace in Wyoming. The best place I've ever been was Buffalo, Wyoming, home of the Johnson County Wars, Crazy Woman Pass, Powder Pass, the Hole in the Wall Gang, etc. Read up on Buffalo, and www.epodunk.com is a good place to start.

Good choice there on the camera. I also got a Canon XT. I friend has a fish eye lens.... After trying it once i want one too but need to save some money. But i do agree it adds about 6-7lb easy. Did i tell you that the pics are awsome.... just making sure i did *L* ...

Those pictures are unbelievable, I am constantly looking for a place to retire, CO might be in the front right now. Makes Fayetteville NC look like hell, if you ever want a house guest give me a holler. Chris

Well said! How do you like that ferret? I've always thought about getting one better never managed it in the end.

The femur is the biggest bone in the human body; if you compare the knife to the bone for size, it's not too big for a human. The part on the left is the ball joint that sits in the hip, and the other has the grooves for the knee cap. Unless you camped in a graveyard or a medical waste dumping spot, I'd look into it...

Cool pix, but what's with the broken human leg bone in the pick above the pic of your camp looking towards Vasquez Pass?
Uh, I don't know anything about a human leg bone. Hey, pass the salt! :barf:

It is a good little neck knife. Only 1/8" unlike most tops. I keep it attached to my backpack straps. I use it mostly for food prep because I don't like getting bits of cheese and stuff in my folders. What I think is better is the Ranger little bird. Don't you have one of those?

But seriously, in the fifth picture from the top, with the campfire and the knife with lanyard, the broken bone beside the old log is a human femur.

I marked my camp with a waypoint on my GPS. I can send you the coordinates if you want to investigate. I used it as a hammer because all the downed pine limbs were too brittle. The bone didn't last long either.

Not being a forensic anthorpologist, I don't think I could do much good investigating it, but show it to a policeman. Write the co-ords on the back of the pic. If they're not interested, then I guess it doesn't matter. Did you find it in pieces or was it whole and broke when you were hammering with it?

Dingle,
I am ignorant on identifying human remains, when I first looked at the picture it looked big but now I am not sure. It looks a lot like the bone this professor, from my Alma Mater, BTW, is holding. Chris

Hi Chris,

I had to learn/draw human bones in art college years ago... we had to draw every damn bone except for the inner ear ones multiple times to get things right for life-drawing class. It really helps, but it was boring as hell. some bones are similar amongst mammals to the point of confusion, but the femur is like a neon sign blinking "human"...

It shattered when I used it as a hammer. You know there was a sign on the trail that said "Have you seen George Gibson?" Maybe I found him. Mountain Lion? Bear? This area was once part of the Winter Park ski area and a lot of backcountry skiers use it. Maybe he fell and got eaten.

Where is the Spyderco Outlet.
I might want to stop by.
I'm in Buena Vista right now.
820 Spyderco Way
Golden, Co

It is right off the 93.
If you get off the I-70 and head north on 93 it is on the left.
