Vehicle blade

Great thread. I have a Gerber 800 multi and an old Estwing hatchet in my old Jeep. But I think I'll add my stainless Schrade Sharpfinger for a dedicated slicer. Might make a nice traditional looking, low maintenance, low cost truck trio?

My choice to keep in my work truck is a CS bushman , although it would fall short in your sheath wishes.

I would get a BK 7 also. It wouldn't put you out much if it was stolen, and it is a great blade to have with you.

my vehicle blade is a Spyderco Rescue Assist in blaze orange, clipped to the seatbelt . I also have a SOG Seal Pup tucked away in the locked job box in the back

Hey Bushman, can you snap a pick of that?

Im intruiged to see how you have it attached.

I keep a few toys in the truck. Multitool, gerber gator folder and flashlight in the arm rest compartment. I keep a trailhawk, BK7 and very over supplied car kit in the back.

Cold steel bushmen. little hockey tape on the handle, fill the sheath pocket with a stone / ferro rod etc...your good to go for $30.

BK11 is a great knife too, not sure if anyone has mentioned it. I do NOT recommend the Gerber survival knife-I have a Prodigy, it's no frills counterpart, and although it is a very well designed and extremely ergonomic knife, their steel flat out sucks. It chips like crazy, not rough use capable.

Some time back I acquired an unused Ontario Pilot's knife in a batch of knives. It was not particularly sharp, had a thick edge and the grip and sheath were unsealed leather.

I didn't have much use for it so decided to leave it in my car. I saturated the sheath in hot bees wax and thinned out the blade edge so that it cut well and was easy to touch up. The grip was coated with epoxy until it wouldn't soak any more up and the blade was coated with a mix of lanolin grease and beeswax. The knife was been sitting in the spare tyre well in the car (in tropical conditions) for over 2 years without any sign of corrosion or degradation. Doesn't meet your synthetic sheath requirement but it is a good tough knife, the sheath is pretty secure, cheap enough to be lost without grief and capable of doing most things a knife should do.

Kage, I wish you wouldn't reference Cliff Stamps website .It's not a reliable source. He was ,after all , banned from this and other forums !!!

I have a Rat Cutlery RC5 with the nylon sheath with kydex insert in my vehicle.

Have a number of blades in my truck, RC Izula, and a SP16 Ontario SPAX sit at the top of the list. +1 for the countycomms breacher bar as well. Whatever you decide on, be sure it can pry as well as cut :)

What he said!!:thumbup::thumbup:--KV

I would say you should look at the Becker BK-2. Price is good, so if you lose it, no big deal, and the sheath lock-up is pretty good.

I keep a RAT RC-3 and a Mora 2000 in the wife's SUV. In my truck, I just keep a Mora Clipper.

Let me give my advice in addtion to my suggestion. The blade needs to be adequate to the tasks of cutting and potentially rough use, but also relatively disposable. I say this for two reasons: 1. Anything left in a car can be stolen, or 2. Can potentially be confiscated during a search of your car by the local constabluary. Number 2 is probably alot less likely than number one, but if you look back you will find a number of posts where people have had #1 happen. It is why I have set an arbitrary limit of $30-$40 on any single knife or tool left in the car. I currently have a mora clipper and a stanley pry bar in the car. One cuts, one is for rough use. I have considered putting the Glock Knife in the car, or picking up a Cold Steel Bushman or Tru Flight thrower in the car as a cheap do it all blade.

Sounds like you need a ColdSteel Bushman..No I don't own one but most people on here will tell you they are a good deal for the money. I keep a ColdSteel Roach Belly in my tacklebox & I keep a 12" Ontario Machete & ColdSteel TrailHawk in my truck. I always have a good solid locking folder in my pocket & a SAK . & most of the time I got some type of fixed blade around (RC Izula or BK11)

I carry so much crap in my Grand Cherokee, Its like a one person vehicle. I keep a Buck 119 and a Glock field knife for a beater. Also a cheap machete and an old hatchet. Seems like I always think of something else I Might need too. Soon Im going to have to get one of those roof carriers If I dont get control of myself.
