venting some frustration

Hello,

This is precisely the reason manufacturers attempt to set minimum advertising prices. Dealers react with an attitude of "Who are they to tell me what price I should sell products for?!" Who they are is people who know about the industry. If dealers would follow these guidelines in the first place, price wars would be a thing of the past and sales would be based on better customer service, availability, etc. But most dealers choose to ignore these pricing recommendations in favor of undercutting everyone in sight. Items can always be put on sale (a legitimate sale - not a permanent low price disguised as a sale) and once customer contact is made you can always choose to sell at a lower price to give someone a deal if that is what the customer wants. This "I will beat anybody's price by 10%" stuff is BS.

These self-policing policies are a benefit to the dealers - at least they would be if dealers were ethical enough to follow the suggested guidelines and not thumb their noses at guys like Sal Glesser. You make your bed, you lie in it.

i understand your thoughts on the MAAP priceing. but i have to ask myself, would that have stoped this current fog of each companies sales and current back stabbing on price's. let me say this NO it wouldnt have
each person was hell bent to out bid (so to speak) the other i felt as if i had started an auction. give me 5 5 give me 4 come on guys give me 3 wait wait..........thats not happening in todays true error we had a clear case of jealousy running rampid through the halls of blade forums. each person in fear that the other one would get the sale. heres a perfect example of this.
i started spydercards at 30.00 by the end of this past week they had either been given to you by someone or you were able to buy them as low as 23.00......my final post on them i might add. anyway i understand the dealer/distributor priceing issue i buy at distributor priceing on alot of things. now many of you are saying MArk you are not a Microtech distributor well no im not an authorized dist but i do almost always buy at that. same way with alot of things. you may ask how it is possible. well personally i dont care to disclose that info at this time. i came here to ask for a peace treaty
not to discuss the polatics of this matter. includeing buy it cheaper to make more money
or something like that........if you feel that is the case please look back to my first statement. this past week i have set records with the amount of sales. im not truely complaining about the sales aspect of it. im looking out for the guys that didnt have a good week last week and the reason they didnt was because we were in here robbing the food from there table. now i have to agree with Mike Payne and a few others. personalized service, and good price's will make you or break you. in this e-commerce world the consumer can only look at picture's or words posted and then take these people at there word to do as they say.
i have thousands of customers and 900 of them ive never spoke with on the phone nor seen them face to face. so it will be service and price that sets us free from the
BS thats become more of a nusiance then anything else. folks im off to a show i will be back this afternoon to look into this further. i also have to get a list done today and posted here in the dealers area to calm the people chomping at the bit to see it. take care and have a great day.
P.S. thanks Patrick i was beginning to wonder where you went.

I am very much a newcomer to the business myself. I saw your posting on the cost of shipping via UPS plus the cost of shipping supplies. Have you given any thought to using the Post Office's 2 day priority mail service? It costs $3.20 for the first 2 pounds which increases in (average) one dollar increments per each extra pound. Insurance is very reasonable, too. PLUS, the post office gives you the mailing boxes and labels....for free. I save and use the "filling" that comes in with product I order for the shop.
Just a thought and, hopefully, a helpful one for you.
